Check what Cotto said to Mexican TV. He told Chavez that Margarito´s punches felt the same like in their first fight. For Mexicans Margarito is a hero and Cotto didn´t win, Margo´s eye messed it up. Period.Comment

Seriously speaking, why are people acting like Margarito had anything for Cotto tonight???? Dude got spanked!!! Even with a "healthy" eye, Tony never hurt him. Margarito should be happy the fight was stopped in all reality. He was just gonna take more punishment til the final bell.Comment

Ummm... nah. Nah dude, I seriously doubt it. I would have thought Margarito could put on more pressure and walk down Cotto, but he never cut off the ring like in the first fight, and he was far from building that kind of momentum. All talk about loaded gloves aside, Cotto had a much better gameplan and made Margarito fight his fight.
Margarito should blame his corner, if anyone, for not stopping the Pacquiao fight earlier. He should have been protected from himself, instead they let him suffer a huge amount of unnecessary punishment over the course of at least 4 rounds, when it was evident that he was out of it.
The damage he sustained in the Pacquiao beating played a major role in the stoppage yesterday.
good point.... gk coming upComment

and having sparring partners purposefully aim for an injury is an incredibly ****** idea, that would never help 'strengthen' the area.
I really hope no one was surprised by the results last night. Margarito has been done for a long time now, hes fallen a long way since his prime days 5 or so years ago.Last edited by Steak; 12-04-2011, 04:51 PM.Comment

Miguel Cotto retained his WBA junior middleweight title, easily stopping challenger Antonio Margarito who was unable to continue because of a badly swollen right eye. The 31-year-old Puerto Rican champ Cotto improved to 37-2-0 with a dominating TKO victory at a sold-out Madison Square Garden on Saturday as he avenged a controversial loss to Margarito three years ago.

Hats off to Cotto, let's not take anything away from him he put in a superb performance, he did things I didn't think he was quite capable of. He changed up his gameplan from the first fight perfectly to neutralise Margarito. So what did he do differently, well instead of backing up in straight lines and going to the ropes where Marg could hammer him he used lateral movement so he was much harder for Margarito to find. When Margarito did close the gap and force his way inside he stopped Margarito uppercuting him by doing several things. He closed the gap further and clinched, he threw hooks from angles, he sat on his punches more to stop Margarito pushing him back and stop him. Another thing he did was use the occasional headbutt coming off the ropes to take away Margarito's rythm. Brilliant strategy, well done to him and his trainer, they put in a master class.
Cotto's camp employed a good game plan, that I think was very evident. I however, think the headbutts wasn't intentional. GK coming upComment

now you want to give excuses for the poor son of a *****, Margarito was a 100%... Cotto was never hurt. Margarito is a hero ??? You probably drink piss don't you.Comment

That was a b1tch-slapping......
remember Eric Morales vs Maidana?? Margarito was building momentum, and just like in the first fight he was hurting Cotto big time. Too bad for his eye, but Mexicans die in the ring , unlike Puerto Ricans. Cotto never hurt Margo and was holding for dear life, a sign that he was breaking down. Cotto´s Mouth and face were pretty bruised.

What did his eye look like after the fight ?
Tell me what caused the difference ?
Has it ever occurred to you that Margarito did not actually have to stand there and let Cotto repeatedly punch him in the eye?Comment
