Everyone can speculate about it, but due to the fact that Margarito was never caught like he was before the Mosley fight, it unfortunately can't go down as fact.
I did notice something though in this fight which made a difference: Cotto tying up!! It's what Emmanuel Steward kept saying throughout the first fight that Cotto should do, but instead he allowed Margarito to pressure and pressure and constantly build momentum. Every time that Margarito got in on Cotto this time, he was immediately stifled and frustrated by the newly employed gameplan of Cotto. Added to that the beatings he took to both Mosley and Pacquiao, and we probably have seen the last of Margarito. I know some people mention a match with Canelo or someone of that caliber, but the man doesn't need to fight anymore. He simply doesn't have it.

Did anyone else see how Cotto was taking the fight to Margarito in the 9th??? He was literally driving him back against the ropes and ripping shots on the inside with no respect for Margarito's power! Holy **** never thought I'd see the day.

One of the best displays of boxing I've seen. Perfect backwards to lateral movement to attacking to pivoting and getting in and out... Cotto was a man on a mission last night. Margarito, you know what you're getting... a guy coming forward even if you take your stool from the corner and break it over his face, and last night, it wasn't enough.
Cotto fought a near flawless fight (a flawless fight to many) last night, and revenge couldn't have been any sweeter.

Cotto put on a boxing clinic. Margarito had only pressure and his heart not skills. Cotto was never hurt, he was focused, calculating, and determined to expose the difference between a true boxing champion and a dirty cheating punk. Margarito got roughed up, I loved when Cotto would spin him around and even pull his head down, no respect. Love the victory. Cotto looked like the champ he was and Margarito is garbage since he got discovered his skills are whack and he needs to cheat. Doctors saved Margarito from his right eye. He is so blinded in his ******ity he actually thought the docs were protecting Cotto LMFAO... retire Margarito or make my day and let Sergio Martinez exact the same revenge and probably damage you permently!

COTTO got ****** up with some uppercuts and body shots this time too just like last time but he did not feel them as before he stood there then made Margs feel his own shots. WOW. Great night. WAR COTTO!

Cotto shocked me and apparently the boxing world. I had predicted him knocking out Plasterita in the 8th. That was based on them going to war the entire fight. I guess the win to avenge his first ever loss was more important than putting everything on the line to get the KO.
Many here complaining forget that this is BOXING, not backyard brawling. Cotto fought a defensive styled fight much like that of Mayweather. He fought as if he was the smaller man in the ring; he was! He fought as if his opponent had the advantage fighting at this higher weight class; he did!
I'm not sure about a Mayweather - Cotto fight. If Cotto fought this way again, it would make for a boring fight that Money May will definitely win on the cards. If Cotto continued as the aggressor, Floyd would just be Floyd and that may just be too much for Miguel to handle.
Miguel did swell Margarita's face late.
There goes my Cotto KO in 8.
But I'm fine with a TKO in 9!
Plasterita had nothing for Cotto without the concrete in his gloves. Now bring on Pacquiao to avenge his 2nd loss.

I loved watching cotto pushing margarito away all night, specially since margarito looked so much bigger than him than on 2008. And yes cotto came on the.ninth to bring the heat and he was oulanding and outpowerin margarito even on the inside which is where he is stronger. I didnt like.the stoppage and cotto sure looked like he didnt like it either, like.he was determined to ko margarito in the final rds.
