I am sure Arum would like to get the deal done without Golden Boy Promotions or Al Haymon or Ellerbe being involved. However, there is no way that will happen. Keep in mind that Arum, while he was staging that phony second negotiation, claimed Mayweather had dropped Golden Boy and would sign with Don King, and the gullible media bought the lie.

Mayweather is not ****** and he is definitely not Shane Mosley or JMM. He does not have to sell his soul to Arum to get a Pac fight. Mayweather needs a promoter to represent his interests and his promoter of choice is Golden Boy. Haymon and Ellerbe have their hand in every deal that involves Mayweather because they are his representatives. Regardless of what Mayweather pays GBP, they will represent his interests and their fee will come out of the fight proceeds (aka Arum's proceeds). Think about it. If you were involved in a lawsuit, would you show up in court without a lawyer because your opponent promised to take care of you and let their lawyer handle everything?

I believer Arum is blowing smoke up everyone's a$$. He is telling the media one thing and telling Pacquaio another while he tries his best to figure out how to avoid making this fight. Unfortunately, Pac is too dumb to understand that.

Arum never claimed that, he said that IF Mayweather were to work through King then the deal would be done in a weekend. It was FLOYD who ended up cavorting around Miami clubs taking pics and posting them on twitter, even hinted that he was signing a $100 million 4 fight deal with King.

      Exhibits A-C:

(Floyd posted this on his twitter)

If you knew Floyd's business model and how his promotional outfit operates, you wouldn't embarrass yourself typing all that nonsense. Floyd takes all the financial risks- he has to come up with the guaranteed purse (usually from outside investors, go figure), pay for advertising, publicity, sanctioning fees (which is why he didn't want to pay the one on Mosley's WBA belt). On top of that, he has to pay Golden Boy a fee for their leg work on the promotional end and their fighter's guarantee. So for Golden Boy there's absolutely no risk, but no big pay off really whereas with Floyd he takes all the risk and gets a bigger share of the revenue.

For example, in the Ortiz fight, Mayweather promotions had to round up his $25 million guarantee (which he has to pay back with interest most likely), Ortiz's $2.5 mil, GBP's fee which amounted to about $2 mil, and another $10 for publicity, advertising, etc. This was all done by Ellerbe (Mayweather Promotions) and Al Haymon.

Under that model, Mayweather Promotions absorbs all the risk but at the same time they reap the bigger reward/share. Whereas under the usual fighter/promoter model, the promoter has to come up with the guarantee and the fighter has no risk whatsoever. So therefore if a Mayweather fight bombs, he stands to lose money or at least make a relatively miniscule return but regardless of how a Pacquiao fight does he still gets his guarantee plus PPV upside, but Top Rank would take a big financial hit. It's all about risk/reward.

So now if Arum is putting together the investors that cover all expenses- fighter purses, promotions, fees, etc and he's putting all the details together... then why is Golden Boy necessary? Them being involved only means that Floyd loses money by paying them to do absolutely nothing. He doesn't need them to do any promotional footwork and he wouldn't be fighting someone from their stable.

Al Haymon's job is to represent Floyd and manage his career. He is indispensable to Floyd, but Oscar and Schaefer would just be a useless business expense. That's the truth and anyone with sense knows this, including Floyd, Haymon, and Ellerbe.

I believer Arum is blowing smoke up everyone's a$$. He is telling the media one thing and telling Pacquaio another while he tries his best to figure out how to avoid making this fight. Unfortunately, Pac is too dumb to understand that.
Funny that you think it's Arum blowing smoke, but Floyd is the one who booked the MGM on cinco de mayo BEFORE Pac-JMM even went down. Now that's either HORRIBLE business sense since getting the highest bidder for site fees could net them $30 mil+... or... more likely... he's targeting a Mexican from Golden Boy's stable and just talking **** to hype his May 5th fight date early.

The good thing about all of this is, Drug Testing talk is mellowing down and finances are being discussed. Sounds like progress to me.

I'd like to hear from Floyd too though, and be more engaged with the soundbites that boxingscene makes an article out of. Whenever he disappears and gets into quiet mode, nothing gets done. Stop partying and giving interviews on obscure Hip Hop stations and focus up. You're your own independent man, Manny has his puppeteers doing his bidding for him.
