Who did Williams beat prior to his first fight with Martinez, and at weight class?

I'm gonna answer this. He dominated Winky Wright 120-108 at Middleweight. Sure Winky was coming off a 2 year lay off, but a lot of people thought Winky would win, although he was an underdog. Also no big names wanted Williams and Wright at the time, so they fought eachother.

HBO shoved down Dzinzuruk down Martinez's throat, with HBO citing a "new, no nonsense attitude" towards fighters "no more easy fights" etc. And Martinez takes a breather against Barker, and he's supposed to continue fighting all of these unknowns that people want to see him against?
