Cortez would have stopped the Kirkland-Angulo fight in the 1st round

Actually in the States they would have stopped it in the first Round when Angulo was swinging away It would have been Angulo Ko's Kirkland in first

Doubt it, after the first KD Kirkland was throwing punches, and landing more then Angulo was, which is what led to Angulo's KD. Angulo was hurt bad, stumbling around the ring and barely able to walk towards the ref, because the fight was in mexico, he was given a chance to get back into it.

Idk if Cortez would've stopped the fight or not but the referree for this fight, Johnny Callas should be rewarded for the job he did by getting some other high profile ref assignments..

He was down 3 times!!! He hit the canvas hard the 3rd time and am sure the fight had the 3 KD rule, So yes Cortez saved his asss..

I'm pretty sure there was no 3 KD rule. The 3 knock downs were flash knockdown, he wasn't seriously hurt.

I agree, his performance was outstanding. I like the way he stopped the fight, not a second sooner and not a second later.

I don't like Cortez since the Withaker/Chavez fight. He likes too much the spot light.

A stoppage is all dependant on the Ref. Dont forget where Gatti/Ward I took place

I didn't think Kirkland was that hurt either but how many times can you let him hit the mat?
None of us was in the ring that night, so it's up to the Ref to make the best call under the circumstances.
I thought he jumped on Kirkland and never gave him a chance to get back up IMO.
But all this can be fixed with a little rematch but something tells me it's going to be hard to get Ishada back in the ring with Kirkland after the KO of El Perro.
