that's true but i was referring to their status in fame and popularity among the general public. ortiz is in the music industry too but many outside boxing doesn't know who he is. pac and floyd haven't reached that status where they're a household name.Comment

fuuuuuuuuuuggggggg no.
And De La Hoya wasn't even close to being on Tyson's level at his height.
Tyson was a cultural icon and was known and revered in every corner of the globe. De La Hoya was only big in the U.S.
Both Mayweather and Pacquiao have already surpassed De La Hoya in popularity. And the numbers prove it. I've never seen De La Hoya do the type of numbers on PPV or at the gate with a Ortiz or Clottey type of opponent that May and Pac have one. Hell, he couldn't even do 600,000 PPV buys with a LEGEND such as Chavez. He always needed another star alongside him in order to sell big.
But back to Tyson, watch the 1st 10 minutes of this video to give you a glimpse of how larger than life Tyson was during the height of his reign.
Outside of Ali, there's never been a boxer that was on Tyson's level, Neither Mayweather, De La Hoya or Pacquiao have ever had this type of global reach, where they can go to some random country on a seperate continent that they have no connection or affiliation with whatsoever, and be the complete center of the universe.Last edited by Deal With It; 10-31-2011, 12:37 AM.Comment

back to topic, imho, they are probably closing in and definetly a fight between them must be done to reach that level and totally different Aura from Tyson or Dela Hoya, Mike everyone wants to see a Knockout and is a heavyweight, so that;s something of a plus, and Oscar was just Golden while Floyd is banking on his fans and those who want to see him loose and Pacuiao being non-American is a darkhorse...Comment
