Ali rarely went to the body other than sometimes jabbing. A lot of his defense was predicated on using his freakish physical gifts rather than the proper techniques, which hurt him later in his career. He didn't have refined skills on the inside, although he was adept at pushing off or using maneuvers to create punching room.

We are talking about the most COMPLETE fighters ever, and Ali is not up there with numerous others.

I would argue that Ali was a very complete fighter based on his ability to adjust...in the heavyweight division you are facing guys who have boilers in their guts...going to the body against top competition in the heavyweight division is different than going to the body against a lightweight...you wouldn't see Ward-Gatti play out that way in the heavyweight division...could someone stop Wlad with body shots? What about Vitali? Heavyweight division is different, and that is what makes Heavyweight Champion of the World a more distinguished title than anything else in boxing.

Just the fact that you have Hopkins on a list of complete fighters is enough to ignore this thread. Wow. Really?

Ricardo Lopez for me is the most perfect technical skilled fighter I have seen in my lifetime...Yes for me personally even better than Floyd...Not greater but better.

Plenty of heavyweights, some of them ATGs, were vicious bodypunchers.

Bowe raked Holyfield to the body in his two wins over him. Frazier was an ATG body puncher who constantly scored to the body in the FOTC, and it would've won him the Thrilla if not for Ali's inhuman ability to absorb body shots. Tyson ravaged numerous guys to the body. Marciano and Dempsey were very effective bodypunchers. Fitz won the HW title on a bodypunch. Louis was a good bodypuncher and won the HW title a combo where he went to the body and then the head, In the last great HW fight, Liakhovich destroyed Brewster's left side with right hooks. Even Lewis, not known for body shots, got Tua's attention early on with a body (borderline low) shot.

Heavyweights are no different, no one likes it to the body.
