    - QUESTION - Severity of Margarito's eye injury: Injury you can recover from a 100%?

First off I know he suffered a broken orbital/socket on his right eye. I don't know much if any at all about injuries and their severity and effects etc etc. So does someone with knowledge on the situation explain what exactly happened and I also want to know, is the injury he suffered something you can heal from a 100% or is it something that when touched again would be tender and fragile?

I mean I heard this thing was career threatening at one point.

I just want to know how big of a factor it'll play against Cotto. I mean.. I can't help but imagine that if you hit that part of his face it is bound to open up again or get tender or something.

    I'd appreciate any information.

I won't claim to be a professional, but while its true that broken bones heal to become stronger than they originally were, a lot of people seem to be overlooking that nasty cut and the swelling. That cut is bound to open up again... Should marg's face get half as bad as it did last year, the fight is likely to get stopped, even if its a blind referee that's working this fight.

that's what i've been thinking about for a while. i don't know about the orbital bone, but margarito also suffered retinal detachment. i know that's an injury that can repeat, and cause blindness. they only 'weld' it back into place using a laser.
margarito is medically cleared alright, but he's doing this at his own risk. i would not be surprised if there's another premature stoppage in that fight. marg should be making a tuneup first.

He was not medically cleared by any Doctors until Bob took him to a friend of his.

that's not good. but i think bob knows very well it could be margs last fight, that's why they jumped straight to cotto. i wonder what will happen when cotto touches that eye with a few clean shots.....

They were supposed to fight in June the dude whent to doctor after doctor after doctor and all of them told him to retire. Arum had to cancel the fight and moved to a Cotto-chavez Jr fight but after seeing Jr fight with Zbik he decided to cancel that too by claiming "Chavez is not ready to fight someone like Cotto" with no hope left Bob took him to a friend of his and he got clear to fight finally. Margarito is even training with ****ing shades on that eye is messed up and I expect Cotto to tag the hell out of it.

This is one of the many reasons why I am not too crazy about this match up and event. Agbeko-Mares, Moreno-Darchiny is the one to watch for me.

Far from an expert but Im definitely a bit worried about Marg getting that eye way ****ed up in this fight.

I just dont want to see something like that happen. Karma or not.

Thanks for the responses, read each and every one. I appreciate it.

Making mention of a point someone made, I remember reading that Margaritos career was on the verge of being over because of it. It was that bad. And then all of the sudden the Cotto fight gets made.

                  It just seems shady.

I'm sure Arum pushed for the fight to happen regardless and knowing Margaritos hunger and willingness to get back on top accepted. Hopefully it doesn't end up messing him up bad.

I just do not see how that eye won't be a factor if it's jabbed and hit repeatedly. It's gotta bother him at the very least.

Pretty much sums up the way it seemed to go down. I thought he was out, if not for good at least for a long while. Didnt hear much about it after that, and then boom, here we are...
