What is the difference between brawling and infighting???

I dont get it when I talk to ppl about brawling and infighting they all describe it as infighting or how brawlers are not good when it comes to fighting long range which seems like an infighting m.o!

Can someone shed some light on this topic...

Brawling would be thoughtless action, bulling in throwing shots, not really setting stuff up just making a mess of what the other guy is trying to do.

Inside fighting is much more controlled and thoughtful process where every move has a purpose in opening the other guy up, a guy wouldn't be throwing just to throw, plus it is a defensive tactic also being inside the arc of the others guy power so his blows are much less effective while the inside guy is able to really dig in.

A brawler is someone who steps in and fires punches and depends on having more toughness and energy than his opponent...is willing to get hit for the opportunity of hitting...kind of like wreckless abandonment.

The inside fighter is someone who fights well from inside up close as opposed to someone who stands outside of the opponents punching range and looks to move into the sweet-spot (the sweet science where you punch from a position where you can't be hit) or to counter punch ...the inside fighter fights up close and may even bury his head into the other fighter.

Infighting - see Andre Ward vs. Allen Green; Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Gerry Penalosa.

Brawling - see Brian Vera vs. Andy Lee (first fight), Jake Lamotta vs. Sugar Ray Robinson (although Lamotta used subtle refined techniques with his brawling)

Sometimes the two can coincide - Chavez Sr. was a perfect example of a guy who could brawl BUT also utilize technique on the inside for superior infighting.

infighting = fighting at close range with good defense.

brawling = fighting at mid range with no defense.

                That was infighting. imo

They were throwing well placed punches that were technically good. Brawling is much more messy and reckless.

a PERFECT example of brawling is Rogers Mtagwa vs. Juan Manuel Lopez. . . also the examples I previously cited. . . and YES, I agree with the NOOSE - corrales/castillo was mostly INFIGHTING, although there were moments of straight up brawling. . .

SEE GLEN JOHNSON for one of the more prominent infighters of our era!

this is a very good thread, because the differences can be subtle, and the two fighting styles often coincide. . .

Infighting is usually the style shorter fighters prefer (not always, though - see margarito and paul williams) because their shorter arms allow them to TURN HOOKS OVER fasters, and they prefer hooks and uppercuts - they will get INSIDE of the taller guys range where they can't be hit with full power, and their punches land first. . . A good infighter will need the following to be successful: Very good chin (to absorb punches coming in), A good punch(not necessarily amazing power), GOOD, TIGHT, HIGH-GUARD, GOOD HEAD MOVEMENT to avoid shots coming in, good stamina (as infighters usually rely on volume punching), and ability to cut off the ring.

Brawling can take place from the inside as well, but you can CLEARLY see the difference between a good infighter utilize technique and skill rather than some guy just busting through the front door throwing bombs until somebody falls down.

I think I provided VERY GOOD info for ya!
