DeMarco had problems adjusting to Linare's speed and elusiveness but once he got in a rhythm he was able to time him and landed some good shots throughout the fight, his only problem is that he is not really a volume puncher and gets into a counter-puncher mode when in reality he is more effective going forward and being more aggressive.

If you look at the punch numbers after the fight, DeMarco, despite throwing less punches, had a better connect ratio than Linares. If he would only let his hands go more like he did earlier on his career, people would take him more seriously.
Demarko was never able to Time Linares. Props to Demarko for taking a beating for 10 rounds, but the only reason he was even remotely competitive in this fight was the bleeding.

If you look at the compubox stats. As soon Linares starts bleeding, Demarko doubled his connect percentage. Thats not much considering he landed 5 punches in Round 5, but it is clear evidence that the blood was effecting Linares vision, and his ability to get out of the way of punches.

I've seen all of your posts in regards to the fight and although I think you are a pretty knowledgeable poster here I think you are riding the Linares jock a bit too hard, and I mean no offense by it. It's so easy to fall for the fighter who displays all that flashy speed and skill like Linares, but as we know, in boxing all of that doesn't mean jack spit when punches start landing on your mug.

Fact of the matter is even though DeMarco doesn't have the "talent" or skills like Linares, he was the better man at the end of the night. He wanted it more and was mentally and physically tougher and tore his opponents face into shreds. So you can make any case you want whether Linares was winning the fight, he is incredibly skilled, this and that, in the end he couldn't win. Look at that barrage of combos landed by DeMarco on that last round, short and powerful right hooks followed by his lead left, right on the button and perfectly executed with a lot of power. Linares can't take those punches well, his opponent did.

this I agree with 100%.....shawn is a great poster, but compubox stats can lick my balls. the damage caused by bunches matter more than the number of punches. compubox stats are merely one tool used to assess a fight, and a minor one at that.

they don't show ring generalship, ability to take a shot, heart, will, power, skill, technique, toughness/fortitude....all traits that are just as important or more important than whether a couple geeks in the front row think a punch connected or not.

Good post and 100% agreed. All the time Linares was landing those eye catching combos and looking sharp I was thinking "but Demarco is still there and not hurt or discouraged at all, in fact looks quite fresh to have a go later"

If you look past the speed and flashy stuff you would see that he wasn't really hurting or wearing down Demarco. For a vulnerable guy like Linares that is always going to be dangerous

Yea but if anything, I think Linares answered some questions about his chin tonight. We seem to forget, he also ate a lot of BOMBS and fired right back without being hurt. Demarco was just all over him by the end of the 11th and Linares couldn't keep him off, the blood compounding the problem.

It's my opinion that if Linares doesn't get cut, he weathers a bit of a storm in the 11th and 12th and wins a comfortable decision. But that does not take any credit from Demarco...he did what he had to do. I just don't like hearing all of this "Linares's chin is going to hold him back", please. He ate plenty of bombs tonight and it took a serious barrage a ton of blood loss to make him wilt.

Both fighters deserve major props for that fight.

                very very true.

i think people talking about linares chin are misguided. it's his skin that's the problem, AND its his willingness to slug it out when he doesn't need to. he can win an exciting fight without ever standing and trading like that.

that blood coming out of him eventually took his legs and tony demarco (who is a beast btw, valero didn't even KO him, he was tko'd and never quit) did what he was supposed to do. i think he proved he's tougher than linares and would be in a rematch.

i still need to go back and see when the nose cut happened, i never saw the punch. someone on here said it was an uppercut but I didn't see it for sure. that kind of cut is usually from a head or maybe an elbow.

And most of all, I think Linares proved how tough he was tonight. He fought with all of that blood from like round 3, and he fought ******ly, but he showed he "it" inside of him. Not many fighters are going to be be able to keep a Tony Demarco off of them bleeding like that in the 11th round of a grueling fight like that.

Yea I have no idea where that cut came from, sometimes it's so difficult to tell, although DeMarco's so lanky we've seen him cause a pretty nice gash before with his elbow....

Linares also went through with the fight after getting cut in sparring which people don't seem to realize.

DeMarco is a beast, and he does not deserve to get credit taken from him, I just think that in a rematch, if Linares's face holds up and he fights a little smarter(holds once in a while) he can comfortably win.

I really think this fight warrants a rematch and I for one would love to see it. Who wouldn't want to see these two go at it again?

That's a little deceiving though, I don't think his chin was ever suspect really. His loss against Salgado was due to a well connected power shot the temple that really rocked him I believe, but other than that his chin had ever been tested to a point where we know for a fact if it was shaky or not. I think this fight clearly proofs that it isn't shaky, as he took some really good shots and relatively took them well for the most part.

So I don't see the chin a problem but more likely the ability to absorb some of those shots physically and mentally, plus the whole bloodied face just made matters worse.

Oh and the nose cut did come from an uppercut, watched that 5th round a couple of times to make sure. DeMarco although lanky throws some sick short hooks/uppercuts on the inside that will tear you up. It was a similar punch he threw against Kid Diamond that broke his nose the same way.
