Why are so many of you obsessed with PPV numbers?

I understand that if a boxer achieves a high PPV then he can commend more favourable split on a purse etc, yea, i got that. Thanks. Pretty obvious.

What i don’t understand is why you are all so obsessed with who gets the most PPV subscribers?! I mean, really, why?

I don’t care one bit if Mayweather has 850K, 8.5M or just 8 people buying his fights, i don’t care at all. I’ll still watch him. You’ll still watch him. What does it matter?

It’s like it’s a badge of honour for some of you on here in this never ending battle between rival fans.

Oooo Floyd did XXXXX PVV and Manny only managed XXXX PPV, therefore Floyd is better etc.

    Yawn.

Isn’t chat like that more suited to the playground, and more suited to the game of conkers rather than boxing

Can i have a sensible answer please, I’m sure there must be one.

I have to agree I cannot for the life of me understand the fascination with this. It's to the point of ridiculous in this forum.

If you really think about it, it was Floyd who started this whole thing about glorifying his ppv sales. Not even Tyson nor Oscar bragged about how many ppv's they've sold. Floyd cant stop talking about it and therefore his fans use it as a crutch whenever it fits their argument.

The irony of this statement and who you are a fan of, makes this hilarious.

Because they matter for the sport. If a PPV bombs, that is bad for the sport. Boxing is a business, and who is a bigger draw than who has a direct impact on the fights that we, as fans, could potentially see.

For example...Miguel Cotto does decent PPV numbers and for him to fight on WCB he would probably require at least 2.5-3 million. I know Andre Berto gets paid million dollar purses for HBO apperances. Now this isn't a "who cares it's not your money" type thing....knowing that I know that seeing that fight on HBO WCB is more or less impossible because the money isn't there.

So while I agree there are some that use PPV numbers as ****** bragging rights, some of us care about them because PPV numbers and what fighters get paid have a direct impact on the fights we can feasibly expect to see.

They also have an impact on fight negotiations, so it's natural that it has become a big issue in light of the fractious Pacquiao-Mayweather talks as the fans of each man clamber to assign blame to the other side.

made a thread about this and it got deleted....

i dont understand the obsession with ppv numbers on this forum, its ridiculous to be honest, most posters that argue that seem like some losers who dont realize no one outside this forum gives a flying *** about ppv numbers....

A sensible answer, Lord have mercy !

                  Thank you.

However, 99.9% of PPV related posts on here are not about the business importance of PPV.

I should slightly re-phrase the thread asking,

‘Why are so many of you obsessed with using PPV numbers as a reason for one boxer being better than another.’

Or did i get it wrong all along? Maybe a boxer is only important if he has the best PPV numbers? (Yes, i am joking).

Anyway, thank you, a great answer.

because they have no ***in life, they want to sit on Boxing Forums and Brag about their favorite fighter PPV# as if they are getting paid from those PPV#'s

Thank you Pacquiao and Mayweather fans for RUINING BOXING!

PPV #'s and the expectation for them is exactly why we are not getting some of the fights we want to see you ***IN IDIOTS!
