well the reason the pirog fight is a bit more intriguing now is that they're putting up a big purse for him over in russia. i doubt it'd be as much money over here, especially considering hbo is funding it. either way, martinez should drop the thoughts of possibly fighting may or pac at 150 and just focus on unifying the 160 division. if not, drop down to 154 if he really wants a paycheck, angulo and the cotto/margs winner are possibilities.

chavez jr is an easier fight with just about as a good a paycheck as pirog would be in russia, so why not take the easier fight. i mean it's not like he's the only one doing it or him and his promoter are the only ones with this mentality.

I get you're a fan, and that's cool. I'm really not trying to hate on Sergio, he's a great fighter. He's proved that. There isn't any question he's the best MW right now. Can't knock him, not even going to try.

I'm just pleading my case for Martinez vs Pirog. People have all these reasons why it shouldn't happen, but every poll I see Pirog always wins on "who should martinez fight next?"

If Martinez was pacquiao or mayweather status, then I'd get it. I would totally understand Pirog not being big enough. But, unfortunately for sergio, it's just not that case. For whatever reason(s) he's still pretty much unknown in america.

Also, even if I wasn't a pirog fan, I'm usually always in favor of a unification bout. I think that should always be the goal for a fighter - to unify the division when possible (obviously in some cases it can be a lot harder to do for various reasons).

In my mind, unifying the belts, beating Pirog, man, that would be a great win for Sergio. Much, much better than say Barker, or Andy Lee/Macklin. It would really make a statement.
