On the other hand with Pirog vs Martinez, the investors (and the Russian fans) obviously have an intensive to make a Russian star out of Pirog.
Yeah, RJJ has huge fanbase in Russia. The fact that Russians are not favoring there fighters, They still love foreign fighter whom are great boxers. To establish my point beating Pirog in his home crowd could earn Martinez much fan base and support to further build his legacy as 1 of the top 3 P4P in the world.

Beating challengers on their turf is bad ass. Better argument.

There may be nothing of this earthly realm that can shut up Arum. There are decades of evidence on this.

I'd like to see Pirog challenge Serg and wish it was being built beyond website chatter B.S. But in no way would beating Pirog make some magnificent difference in getting an easy pay day against someone as protected as JCC.
As much as I really Hate Arum robbing fans from great match. I really love this fight to be made. It's a toss up for Martinez I think. He has some do around guys this year why not try a tougher one the coming year.

Pirog is a good challenger but not being completely tested, he still seems green, even if he's had some good fights already, they're rushing him.
I agree 100%. Fans are too impatient. The kid just came on and they pushing for martinez. Im sorry but right now pirog gets beat and maybe stopped late. He really isnt ready yet and fans are pushing when the guy has fought no one. Once again i would love to see the fight but im pretty confident in a martinez win right now so if thats the case i rather the kid get some more fights, some more experience, some more exposure and come back when at the very least it makes more sense money wise and he'll be a better fiighter so he'll also have a better shot.

          • It's gonna be Sergio Martinez vs Andy Lee or Matthew Macklin at MSG, St Patricks Day, which lands Saturday March 17 2012. That's my prediction.

As you said it. that pirog gets beat easily why not take the fight.

As I had check it, the kid is a threat to Maravilla. If a fighter is confident enough to challenge someone. He has a chance of doing it so.

I am sure there are a lot of uninformed, boxing-illiterate people on this site who will jump on this story and say that Martinez should fight Pirog in his next fight. because he has the chance to make a record purse These (gullible) individuals are the same ones who believe Bob Arum engaged in a second round of negotiations with the Mayweather camp and that there are no issues with drug testing and Arum is ready to make the fight between Pac and Mayweather immediately.

There are very few things that I am certain about. However, one of them is that this article doesn't tell the whole story. They may very well be offering Martinez a record purse. However, it may come with ah catch, such as that "record purse" is actually for two fights because he will have to sign a rematch clause if he wins; Pirog's promoter may want options on Martinez, which means he may have to fight under their banner for three or four fights for limited money if he takes this offer; Martinez may have to agree to weight stipulations or a stipulation that say his gloves will be chosen by the Pirog camp or the ring size is chosen by the Pirog camp or the judges and ref are chosen by the Pirog camp. Simply because a promoter writes a press release claiming something fantastic or says something similar in a press conference doesn't mean that that pie they are feeding you that has the beautiful outside crust isn't full of **** on the inside.

                Just ask Bob Arum!!!!!

It's true that we can't take a promoters word for 100% truth, but we do know is that diBella has already said "f@ck Pirog!" and that they wont fight him. So they aren't even entertaining the thought at possible bout!

                    • Why would the champ and bigger star go all the way to russia to get cheated if it goes to the cards which I doubt martinez knicks him out in a decent fight
