yea but hopkins still had to fight twice to get the title from him in canada and pascal was the champ not hopkins and if i'm not mistaken sergio is considered the middlewight champ.so you feel like sergio should go fight in russia maybe get cheated have to complain about it to bring attention to it so hopefully in the rematch in russia they don't cheat him?
i understand what you are sayin and i'm not saying that sergio shouldn't fight pirog but at the same time sergio is a fighter who is not an all time great/ hall of famer so he may not get the respect as someone like a roy jones or hopkins would

sergio is p4p number 3 in the world..........yes he will get the respect. nobody knows what sergio will be, he could be a top ATG when it's said and done....who knows. the thing is he must take on challenges like pirog to achieve that status. the reason he should go to russia? he's been complaining about money........he wants a greater pay day so why not go & dominate pirog in front of his home crowd & cash out. if martinez won't fight pirog in russia for a MUCH greater pay, what makes you think he'll fight pirog in america for a lot less???????????

The huge difference Americanbot, is that the fight will be held on American soil instead of Russian soil where Martinez would probably have to win by KO. Do you see the difference? He win a decision in the US and keep his title, or he can go to Russia, get robbed of decision most people thought he should of won.

Remember, Sergio had two questionable decisions on US soil. Cintron and Williams.

Can you name a huge boxing event in Russia where a Visiting Boxer was cheated by the judges. I think Germany has some of it, but I am not aware of Russia. Could someone give me some fights that happened in Russia, that turned out to be a hometown event. Please enlighten me with some of your boxing knowledge

Doesn't make sense to respond until there's some negotiations with the Margarito/Cotto winner first. And even Angulo. Also, god knows what's going on with the Mayweather negotiations.

At the moment, the offer may be career high, but Martinez will probably have more options for his next fight that will pay more than his previous fights. From what I've heard in his interviews, Martinez isn't happy about fighting the Dzinziruks, the Pirogs, and the Andy Lees of boxing anymore. He wants a big name next.

So what? Martinez pretty much fought as a 154 ponder in his last fight and has spoken about wanting to move down. He isn't married to 160. After being stripped of his belts, he has nothing to lose by moving down.

See, Base from what your answer is, Foreign contenders are treated well in Russia. So there should be no problem with the venue. Even RJJ had probably won his fight with Lebedev but he was knocked out.

Fact is location and money is not a scapegoat for Maravilla right now.

Not gonna happen. Not in Russia and it shouldn't. i want to see this fight too but the champ, the true middleweight champ shouldnt have to go to fight in anyones backyard. Sorry but martinez spent most of his career doing that and now that he has actually made it somewhere i dont see him moving backwards in that manner.

And this is what dibella means by he doesnt bring enough money. The only way to make money fighting pirog is doing it in russia which martinez isnt and shouldnt have to do. But on the flip side pirog is not known by the HBO viewing public, sergio is barely known so money wise it doesnt make since here in the states yet. If pirog would get some fights on hbo or showtime and get his name out there just a little bit then im sure martinez would fight him. Im mean nobody besides hardcores know who pirog is, nobody. He hasnt been on tv out here since the jacobs fight.
