You and I agree here. In order for that accusation to make sense, one has to think Oscar "ducked" Vargas...to fight Shane Mosley? Oscar's failings in the second half of big fights are one thing but outside of a few picks here and there, his competition choices are nearly unassailable and the when of Vargas fits fine on that side.Comment

Once Vargas lost to Tito and then got dropped by Rivera. Considering that Rivera was not a strong puncher and Vargas was never dropped prior to Tito. Oscar felt that Vargas chin was cracked, which is true it was. Hence why when Oscar all of a sudden decided to fight Vargas. He said. "I know where to hit him" and pointed at his chin. Insinuating that Vargas chin was cracked. Which again it was.
No matter how you try to switch it. The win wasn't as impressive. When Tito fought Vargas, Vargas was looking ferocious. When Oscar fought Vargas, Vargas was looking like meh against Rivera and "Shibata" Flores.
Oscar found the perfect time to fight Vargas. Just like he did with the Mosley rematch.Comment

For years Oscar said he would never fight Vargas, never give him the payday.

I guess I'm not as impressed as you when you have to low blow your opponent balls into his throat to win.Last edited by Konstantin; 10-09-2011, 12:34 PM.Comment

I agree Tito's win was more impressive, and dominant. I don't think there was any grand scale thinking beyond maybe waiting for the Vargas fight to ripen (and Tito messing up the stew).Comment

Is that what he had to do to win? Oh OK...Another thing that some failed to mention, IDK if it's because they didn't watch the fight and just go by what other people mention, or because they're just Nationalistic morons. Is that Vargas also hit Tito low in the fights, more than once mind you. I mean if that what it takes to win then why didn't Vargas win? Hell why didn't Norwood beat Gainer? I assume because it takes more than that to win. But, yea you probably right that's why he won. I mean that's what you're implying, right?Comment

Dude, I think you're being a little unfair on the Vargas thing. Vargas turned pro in 1996 and arrived as a serious force in 2000. He got a Tito fight and lost while DLH fought an equally tough foe in Mosley. That's timing...not ducking. No one can get everyone when they have an "0" and Oscar got more than his share.
I agree Tito's win was more impressive, and dominant. I don't think there was any grand scale thinking beyond maybe waiting for the Vargas fight to ripen (and Tito messing up the stew).
Also the Mosley fight at the time Vargas had his "0". Wasn't seen as an equally tough opponent. Especially at WW, Oscar was seen as the huge favorite. Not a lot people gave Mosley a chance, maybe because he was seen as the smaller guy. And, at WW hadn't really looked like much. It was seen as a pretty big upset at the time.
Now after the fact, I agree Mosley was as equally tough if not more so. But, at the time it wasn't seen that way.
And, yes Tito win over Vargas was more impressive and dominant.Comment
