My thoughts on this and ill keep it 100.I've seen changes in cotto but at MINIMUM.Steward to me imo is better suited for technical fighters, which cotto is but for this fight your gonna have to bring a better aggressive plan.Being more physical and aggresive.I like stewart,I don't know much abt this other trainer but I hope it works out.Last edited by AP♠; 10-04-2011, 12:22 PM.Comment

lol in which cotto fight under Steward did you see this"old" improved Cotto? The reality is Cotto fought Foreman who stylistically is tailor made for him and a past prime strong punching bag. Ever since the Margarito fight I have seen the same solid boxer, thudding puncher who is a bit gun shy. Changing to a new trainer before a big fight isn't good but dont overhype Stewards true value.Comment

Because Steward will not coach him? Please...
I'm not a fan of such drastic changes 9 weeks before a big fight, but at least they solved it quickly and he got a good coach. Nothing against Manny Steward, but I do not think Miguel looked that impressive against an injured Yuri Foreman and an old Mayorga...
Sure, he left a lot in the ring in the Margarito- and Pacquiao-fights, but if he picked up one or two useful things from Manny, then all is well, and I believe Diaz is very qualified to be an upgrade.Comment

If this new trainer is competent and can demand Cottos respect this will have as much affect on the fight as the 153 lb cw. We all know what Margarito is going to do and a trainer with any type of experience will make those necessary adjustments especially since they have the first fight as a reference. The hard part will be for Cotto to go out there and physically do it. As long as we dont get Santiagos cheerleading ass im good.Comment

With Diaz' background, I think they are settled on tactics&technique, the only thing that would worry me is the motivation factor, seeing how Solis showed up way too fat to his fights until the big Klitschko-bout, but I don't think motivation should be any problem for Cotto after what the cheater did in the first fight...Comment
