Comments Thread For: Macklin Vows: I'm Too Strong For Martinez, I'll Beat Him

Middleweight Matthew Macklin (28-3, 19KOs) was not too impressed with Sergio Martinez's win last Saturday night in Atlantic City. Macklin sat ringside at the Boardwalk Hall and watched Martinez (48-2-2, 28 KOs) stop previously undefeated Darren Barker in eleven rounds. Martinez, the WBC's Diamond champion at 160-pounds, had some trouble before the stoppage. Macklin and Martinez are both promoted by Lou DiBella and a fight between the two of them is possible for 2012.

Lets see you fight Darren Barker and see if you can even beat him. You're as mediocre as Sturm.

        they were supposed to fight.

The BBC have revealed that Darren Barker's British and EBU middleweight title defence against Matthew Macklin has been scrapped due to a rib injury suffered by Barker. The hugely anticipated match-up was seen by many as the jewel in the crown of Frank Warrens 'Magnificent Seven' bill at Birmingham's LG Arena on September 18th. Macklin recently travelled to Freddie Roach's Wildcard gym for his final pre-fight preparations and will be disappointed by this latest development. Barker recently dismissed rumours that he was going to withdraw from the fight and the popular Southerner must have hoped to battle through the pain barrier in order to make the date, alas it is not to be and British boxing fans can only hope that the fight gets rescheduled.

but yeah, that fight would be good for both guys. i'd rather see lee/macklin the most though, it could go down around st. patty's day on an hbo undercard. honestly, the only people that should be considered for martinez's next bout should be sturm, geale, pirog, rubio, or the cotto/margs winner. hopefully it's one of those guys.

Macklin is a very poorly individual, I have no doubt in my mind that Lee & Barker would destroy him, never mind Sergio.

macklin was offered a rematch against sturm...sturm said we offered him more money for the rematch and the rematch was meant to happen in november

i knew macklin had other plans..he didn't want the rematch because he got his eyes set on America..he wants to save his energy with sturm and go straight to martinez...he's scared if he lost to sturm again in the second match his american dream would be over...

to be honest, i like this fight - and i think macklin can beat sergio. . . segio is so vulnerable it's not even funny. . . he gets hit WAYY too much and WAY too easily. . . it's just everybody he has fought has tried to fight him from the outside, which is a bad idea. .. take it to him on the inside where he is helpless. . . ASK POPPA TONY, his daddy!!

Macklin wins. . . If this fight happens Ill have points on it if I can get 3-1 odds. . .

also, lou shouldn't waste the matchup of lee vs. macklin - put them BOTH fighting somebody else on the same card on st. paddy's. . . have macklin vs. martinez, and lee vs. quillin (IF he can get by mcewan)
