On the one part if somebody is challenging for the MW crown you can expect that he is good and brings a good effort and his game... he even had the style that would beat Martinez... if he had any power whatsoever... he just put up his defence and jabbed at him... IDK what to make out of it... MW doesn't seem to be the best weight for Sergio - 154 suits him better... he is an ok fighter... but against someone who has chin, an ok defense and decent boxing technique and power he looses... but in today's boxing you first have to find someone who brings these things together that were standard in other era's
why would you expect that? this is boxing. king of the mismatches. yes in a sport that worked the best would play the best but in a "sport" where they only try to make money and play it safe that almost never happens. if you aren't a threat or are on a downward spiral you will get a shot before someone dangerous and in their prime. boxing 101. dibella knows this of course.

Martinez has only rehydrated up to the 168 once in his entire career, and consistently comes in on fight night weight 164-166lbs. Why in the hell would he even go to 168 when almost all of those guys rehydrate up into the mid 180's.

He is fine right were he is at and there are a ton of fights there for him such as

          Gaele vs Pirog winner
          Lee vs Macklin winner
          Sturm....if he grows a pair
          Kirkland vs Angulo winner
          Martinez vs Cotto winner
          Erislandy Lara fight
and a chance to possible lure Manny or Floyd up to a catch weight to fight him.

I know that usually it isn't so - but I simply feel I can't give someone credit just for being game... I mean that should be the norm USUALLY... I just think that this match was bad in every kind of the way and that Sergio simply felt that he is now superman and thought the same thing as well as you mentioned... that he will blow him out... and look good...

I think this fight pretty much could only hurt him... because nobody expected Barker to be any good... he was at least there and that's why some give him credit... but that's not enough for me... IF Sergio would have looked not so good against Cotto/Margarito or somebody that is known... it would have been ok... but looking bad against Barker will hurt him... because like you mentioned everybody knew that this was supposed a showcase/mismatch... that's why they give Barker credit only for hanging in there for 10 rounds... that was what I meant with I can't give somebody credit for showing up and trying to win... that is what I expect from a guy who fights for the MW ''Diamond'' crown... I personally never felt it was so competive or designed to be a good fight... I hope you understand what I meant *loooooooooooooooooool*

Ottke by the way would have WALKED AWAY with an easy decision over Sergio... Sergio is not quite on that Ottke level

                    I agree.

An off night where he won every round and stopped his opponent. When that is an off night for a fighter, then he's officially one of the best active fighters. Because that kind of standard is only reserved for the best of the best. that absolutely have to look like Mr Perfect in every single fight against every single opponent.

Where were the "overrated" threads after Pacquiao looked average against Clottey and Mosley? Two fighters in which the majority predicted he'd win by TKO.

Oh I know why he didn't stop Clottey, because he was covering up the whole fight. Wait, that sounds familiar. Wasn't Barker just covering up the whole time? Why wasn't Mosley knocked out? Well, that's because Mosley was just jabbing and jabbing and refused to engage. I paid a total of $100+tax for those two fights, and got pretty boring results. In Martinez vs Barker, it was more exciting than those two fights, but with the opponents behaving similar, and I watched it with my normal subscription of HBO. Actually Barker was more game than Clottey and Mosley.
