How do you KNOW? Martinez said he was walking around at 169 a few months ago on twitter before training camp even started, and it's pretty obvious he wasn't lying. And what do you mean by normally? At most he walked around at 170+ for 2 fights. He was a still jr middleweight when he fought both Paul Williams and Kelly Pavlik. If anything, 170+ is ABnormal for him. He was welterweight for half his career and jr middleweight for the other half. Why would be 170+ be normal for him?
Atlantic City, NJ -- On Friday, October 22, reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez and three-time world champion
I think that Martinez looked bad in purpose, because looking flawless didn't bring any good fights and maybe looking vulnerable would. I don't think He trained to his capacity and looked flat at times, all part of his plan to get a big fight.
I'm aware of that. It doesn't mean it's a normal walking weight for him. Donaire recently said he was 145 pounds, but I doubt that's a normal walking weight for him. He simply got out of shape. For the Dzinziruk fight, he only 173 in the 30 weight in even though he came in at his heaviest at fight night. Seeing how he has been a jr middleweight for most of his career, it's very unlikely 170+ is normal for Martinez. It was just probably for those two fights that he gained a lot weight since he was working on building muscle. And gaining extra fat is normal when you're bulking because you have eat like a pig.
What matters is what's his walking weight in his most recent fight. And that's 169.

"I walk around at 78 or 79 kilos, with a maximum of 3.2% body fat." -Sergio Martinez, about 2 weeks ago.
So that's 172-175 lbs when his body fat is at 3.2, which is probably closer to fight time, like a month away... and he was 176 a month before the Williams fight. The months he's not in training he's probably at 180+.
