Comments Thread For: Pirog's Trainer: I'm Confident We'll Beat Sergio Martinez

Victor Petrochenko, trainer of WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15KOs), believes his fighter has the style to defeat WBC Diamond champion Sergio Martinez (47-2-2, 26KOs). Pirog will be sitting ringside on Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, observing Martinez in the ring as he defends his title against undefeated British boxer Darren Barker. Last Saturday in Russia, Pirog stopped mandatory challenger Gennady Martirosyan in ten rounds.

You think hes ready with his ONE win over Jacobs the day after his grandma died to win a vacant title. This guy has beaten nothing but Russian club fighters.

I watched Pirog's fight of last weekend several times, but I also watched all his other fights that can easily be found on youtube. His opponents, though Russian and mostly unknown to the casual fan, are all tough tough cookies. If you truely analyze his skill level, there can be only one winner in his fight against Martinez and that is the Russian.

I know a lot of fans estimate Martinez very highly because of his last three fights (maybe his last 5 fights), but Pirog is a true elite fighter having enormous skills and ring intelligence. No one or to say the least a very few gave him a chance against Jacobs and see what he did. I am adamant he will deliver the goods against Martinez as well. Only if they let him. DiBella won't let his fighter come near to Pirog and also HBO is very conservative about having a Russian stealing the show. But if boxing wants to determine the best fighter at middleweight this fight has to happen.

if Pirog can't beat Steroidgio Martinez he should be ashamed of himself.

the guy hasn't even learned a proper boxing stance. any decent fighter KOs Steroidgio easily.

how in hell they made gennady martirosyan the mandatory challenger when he got KO'd by hassan n'dam n'jikam ? pirog has not faces any credible opposition and never fought outside russia , he has to proof himself yet . Dzindziruk is better boxer than pirog .

Martinez should stay away from pirog.
