before rahman/ruiz, ruiz lost a one-sided fight to roy jones and rahman was 0-2-1 in his previous three fights.

ruiz lost the title and rahman hadnt won since 2 1/2 years prior.

neither of them deserved a title shot and neither of them deserve to be called a "champion".

    lol,

FYI, Vitali Klitschko and Corrie Sanders fought for a vacent title.

Funny how you're so quick to shoot down Ruiz with that logic, but by your definition, Vitali isn't a "Champion" either.

Well, not exactly the same thing, since Vitali in the view of many, ran Lennox into retirement. Lennox had a 3 fight plan going into the fight with Johnson, which ended up being Vitali. After the Vitali fight, Lennox was offered 20 mil for a rematch and decided to retire. Lennox was a great fighter, but was also very crafty and really would have never faced Wlad or Vitali if he could have helped it. Remember that Lennox was inactive after the Tyson fight, when Wlad beat Mercer, all the talk was for Lennox to fight Wlad- everyone was begging him to- HBO, the fans, etc., but then Wlad fought and dominated McCline, and there was REALLY no way out for Lennox, who still remained inactive because it was clear that was the only fight HBO wanted from him. Then 18 HW's turned down the chance to fight Wlad until they got to the bottom of the roladex and called Sanders, who isn't scared of anything. And only when Wlad was sent on the comeback trail did Lennox activate himself and release plans for the 3 fight deal- Johnson, Tyson 2, and then possibly Vitali. Well one fight with Vitali, and he was into that situation with no wiggle room- where the rematch with Vitali was the only fight anyone wanted to see- so he inactivated himself and toyed with retirement. Watched Vitali decimate Johnson, who Lennox was supposed to fight, and then finally announced he was retiring after watching him decimate Sanders as well. I think if Vitali had lost either of those fights, then Lennox would have come back for one more fight where he could trounce someone and make a big payday, and then retire. That's why he was so coy with finally announcing he was definitely retired.

Anyway, how did I get off subject...

Toney tested positive for Nandrolone, an anabolic steroid. Steroid users come in all kinds of different shapes and sizes. From bodybuilders to slim sprinters and track athletes. They can help with nearly any athletic performance, depending on how you utilize them in your workout. All the talk about Toney not looking like a bodybuilder is ******ity. Did all those US track athletes who won medals and championships look like bodybuilders? Nope. But they were all using steroids to enhance their speed and endurance. Their bodies didn't change much at all.

It's really up to the fan to forgive Toney, or to believe there is nothing to forgive and that it was an honest mistake, or to dislike him for cheating at the highest level of the sport. But I think the WBA and the commission did the right thing. Anyone can claim an injury to negate their positive steroid test. The most common answer of ANY steroid user that is caught is "Well, the doctor prescribed them for me- I didn't know what they were." I mean, really, how many times are the fans going to swallow that lie? It's all you heard with the Balco scandal (which involved Mosely and others), it's what you heard with Vargas (yeah, my nutritionist put the roids in a shake- I didn't know they were there!). Pfft. Do we want this sport to turn into baseball, where the modern age contorts and embarasses its golden era past? With a bunch of cheating punk roiders breaking records and making millions? No.

Forgive Toney if you want, and move on. But I'm sick of his fans making excuses for him. Hey, Vitali got caught using them 10 years ago, and he admitted to it, and everyone forgave him and moved on. Let's keep the sport clean and stop trying to buy into every excuse in the book when millionaire athletes get busted cheating.

(And no, I don't think Toney needed to cheat to beat Ruiz. But BECAUSE he used steroids leading up to the fight, we'll probably never know, will we?)

Vitali Klitschko LOST to Lennox Lewis, beat Kirk Johnson, and won one vacated title agasint an out of shape fringe contender in Corrie Sanders.

He's no more accomplished as a "title holder" than John Ruiz.

You're right about that, because John Ruiz will never fight James Toney again. He has no interest in being embarassed again.

Actually, it's because Toney cannot fight for the WBA for 2 years. It's called a steroid suspension.

I'm no fan of Ruiz, but to suggest Ruiz dodges anyone is silly. Ruiz doesn't give a **** about being embarassed or about who he fights. Just look at who he has fought...

Ruiz could fight Toney without the title on the line.

He clearly has no interest in avenging himself, because he knows he can't beat Toney.

Toney is a cheating lying whore and its true thats why he wont release his blood tests submitted to the commission. Ruiz is the greatest champ to ever hold the WBA belt and thats why all the other belt holders are too ***** to accept his challenge for years to fight anytime anywhere for unification.

I would go further than that - I believe Ruiz is potentially the GOAT P4P.

I admit that Ruiz has some point regarding the steroids issue (like why didn't Toney appeal, among other things). But the fact that he miss this part on Toney's PR, I question Ruiz' words:

However, enough is enough. Most real fighters do their talking with their fists and not their mouths...remember I said real fighters. Ruiz has done nothing but cry since being handed his WBA belt back. If he was a real man, a real fighter, he would have tried to get me back into the ring to show everyone that James Toney could not have kicked his ass if my test didn't show up positive.

                      Link
As I said, Ruiz has some point, but Toney take this one with his. And plz don't even tell me about "because the rematch won't be for the championship" and "less money on a non-title fight" BS. Because Ruiz could still label himself a "champion" and would probably make more money on the rematch than fighting bums who has no name.
