What pisses me off is people on this site actually rank him highly for beating a 20 year old kid that didn't belong.

I hate boxers from outside the USA.
Yes, we noticed that you do.

Jacobs was age 23, not 20. And he had more pro fights than Pirog.

My two favorite fighters come from nations outside of America. I'm sorry I'm not buying the hype into a 32 year old man that has yet to beat a top 15 opponent. Until he beats a top guy, he can have all the highlight reel kayos, doesn't prove much to me. Show me that you're one of the best fighters in your division.

You and I both know that the amateur system in Russia is far different than in America. In America no longer do fighters stay in the am's very long. Eastern European fighters are now groomed in the am's and don't need many pro fights to be prepared. One of the reason's Pirog was like 29 in that fight.

again, why do you keep ignoring my posts. do you not see them or do you choose to ignore what i said. the martinez camp, right after sergio beat dzinziruk, said they're going to take an easy fight. this darren barker fight is it. and like i said, martinez is fixed on becoming p4p number 1, he knows if he continues fighting nobodies like barker, he'll lose his number 3 spot he's currently at. barker is a fight to pass time imo. i'm sure he'll face someone better after it. he better, he knows he'll get drop in rankings if he doesn't[/QUOTE]

Sorry bro didn't mean to ignore you. Im not so much criticizing Martinez as DiBella for his comments.Martinez is a real fighter and I dont doubt that he will be in the ring tough again soon because he has proven it in the past.

yeah, martinez is pretty much a risk for company like hbo, or showtime. guy can turn old overnight and have his career pretty much over. so i can see why he fights whoever hbo approves him to. like the whole zbik thing, hbo didn't approve zbik for martinez, but then approved him for chavez jr. it all boiled down to who you're with. martinez is with dibella, who isn't a powerful guy like arum. check out this dan rafael article explaining the whole situation, pretty messed up (it's not that long of a read). not sure if you knew the whole situation, but for anyone who didn't check it out:

Oh yeah man, I've definitely been following this. I actually joined Boxingscene in 09 to ask who Martinez was fighting next. It isn't that Martinez is a risk, it's that he's Argentinian and doesn't speak English. Unlike Mexican/Rican/Polish/Fillipino fighters, Martinez is a foreigner with no ethnic base of fans to support him. HBO aims at demographics a lot, so that doesn't sit well with them. Showtime, on the other hand, put guys from all kinds of weird places headlining their cards, and love to have them as long as they're exciting, good fighters.

HBO will bring in guys without a large ethnic base as opponents, but only as opponents. Maidana, who's also from Argentina, has no problem landing fights and HBO dates, because he's supposed to lose. He was supposed to lose to Ortiz, he lost to Khan, and he was definitely supposed to lose to Guerrero.

Martinez was also supposed to lose to Williams and Pavlik. He didn't, so by now everyone's realized that Martinez is pretty much the man at 154-160 and don't want to throw their popular fighters in with him. Unfortunately, because he doesn't have a lot of fans outside us hardcore fight watchers, Martinez doesn't bring the Cotto or Margarito kind of dollars to the table. So promoters want to steer all their already established fights away from him.

It's not fair, but hey this is boxing.

Bunema / Cintron / williams / pavlik / williams / dzinziruk - Pirog is very very good from the eyeball test, but name me someone of note that he has beaten (prospect jacobs?) who had no business fighting for a title? no one is on here speaking on how the wbc stripped him of his middle weight to hand deliver it to someone who is not even skill wise ready to defend it - all i see on this site are fans of specific boxers who have 0 knowledge of the game, and defend their favorite boxers when known facts are thrown their way - the game is dying and half you guys are the pallbearers!
The continual erosion of standards in order to maximise financial gain.

Thats why I cant stand pacfans.

yeah, i just saw you asking the same question or implying the same thing, so i kept trying reply to it. it's cool man. but yeah, about dibella, he's not ***** compared to top rank or gbp. he can do things, but he can't guarantee or call the shots like the other two can. and what he said about pirog, he said it by himself, because the martinez camp never opposed fighting pirog, they just said after the dzinziruk win (his assistant trainer and manager) that they'll be taking an easy fight cause they've been "on a roll". they even talked about being on a ppv, which is ridiculous.

yeah man, i know what you mean. hbo has been doing this for a while. recently, look at ishida vs kirkland, or like the subject at hand, when he upset jacobs. martinez himself even said if the big money makers in boxing don't give him a shot, he'll look into unifying, so hopefully he gets to it in 2012. i asked him on twitter, who'd he like to face after barker (right around the time this fight was announced) and he said geale or sturm. so who knows, perhaps he'll consider another titleholder or top guy if the opportunity presents itself. like i said in my other posts, the martinez camp knows they have to stay busy with top competition, or else they'll lose their p4p spot and not be as relevant as they are now.

yeah, good point. but pirog currently has a belt in martinez's division, while may and pac gave their belts up and/or don't fight there anymore. only one that would be somewhat pressured is cotto, if he beats margs. even then, he's already stated his excuse by saying martinez doesn't bring in the $$$. so only way martinez gets a big payday is if margs beats cotto.
