Some guys need to elaborate a little on their experiences. The stories are what make these "meetings" interesting.
I was at a Luther Vandross concert back in the eighties at Madison Square Garden. During a break, I recognized Mark Breland in the hallway. We exchanged pleasantries and shook hands. He's much taller than me, and I remember being amazed at how small his hand was...almost girlish.
In 2008, I met Stevie Wonder in Denver, CO. We exchanged some small talk. It felt a little strange, because, not only is he a living legend and someone whose music I've always loved, but I'm not accustomed to interacting with visually impaired people. (You never realize the things you take for granted, like reaching out to shake hands, until you're confronted with something out of the ordinary.) Stevie's much larger than he appears on TV, like a football player.
A few years back, I was working the corner for a friend of mine who was fighting in an amateur show at the NY Athletic Club in Central Park West. In attendance were guys like Gerry Cooney, Juan Laporte and Iran Barkley. I stayed on to help the next fighter on my friend's team, who was against a middle-aged white guy with a round belly. After the first round, Barkley came over to our corner and instructed our fighter in a real ****** voice, "Ay-yo, punch that n*gga in the gut..." I almost lost it!
