Juan Manuel Marquez has refused to back the actions of Floyd Mayweather Jr., who landed two punches on a defenseless Victor Ortiz to score a fourth round knockout on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. After landing a deliberate head butt on Mayweather, Ortiz was penalized a point by referee Joe Cortez. Ortiz, who apologized to Mayweather with a hug, is claiming that Cortez never signaled to resume fighting so his hands were both down when Mayweather "sucker punched" him a split second after the hug.

Mr. Marquez, sir, watch the tape again. Cortez said 'Let's go'. He also turned to Ortiz and gave the hand signal. With 9 seconds left, he was checking the time keeper to see if the round ended. Everything was legal except for the head butt. Everyone has an opinion but Marquez needs to focus on his training.

Don't even try to pile up dirt on him. He's a warrior. You're seemingly a Floyd nutlover. I'm a fan, but what he did is lame, if legal. Ortiz was a fool. Cortez was irresponsible. Should be fired/retire. His expression says enough. I read someone said the fight was pre-determined...

EDIT: If Cortez did indeed call for start of the fight, Ortiz is the only one to blame.

Marquez is completely right on this. Cortez said lets go but he was talking about getting them into the center of the ring. At no point did he say "Fight!" or "Lets fight!"

It was a hoe move by Floyd and he should've been disqualified or Ortiz should've at least been given 5 minutes.

It was a terrible end to a competitive fight. One of the worse endings in boxing history for sure.
