I couldn't give a long list of transgressions made by Mr. Cortez in the past, but I do think in recent fights there have been some complaints about the job he's done. That said, I simply think he lost control of this particular fight. First off, what Victor did was ridiculous and I thought Cortez did the right thing by taking the point away immediately and although what Floyd did was legal, it sure was cheap to say the least. Where I think Cortez messed up was not getting the fighters into neutral corners and not being stern about what was to happen next after the initial foul. He let these guys roam around the ring, hug each other and that led to what happened. Emotions were high, and these guys are fighters, so sometimes these things happen. If Cortez would have been on top of things, this would have never occurred. In fact if you look at the replay you notice that Cortez is not even looking at the fighters' when the final two punches of the fight were thrown. He reacted way too slow and it cost him. How can you be the referee of a major prize fight and not witness the last two punches that end it? Not to pile on ole Joe, but the way he handled the end was inexcusable.

Cortez, Ortiz and Mayweather, they all did something wrong...

1.Cortez was not in control of the situation.
2.Ortiz headbutt was ****** and he shoudn't apologize a 100 times for it, one time is enough and please, no hugging.
3.Mayweather took advantage of the situation knowing that Ortiz was not ready to fight.

The result: A poor fight with a bad ending...Not the fight of the decade, not the fight of the year, not the fight of the week, not even the best fight of the night...

Well put. Pretty much sums it up . I do feel if Cortez had control though, it could have been minimized.

We are going to have Cortez using flags that read, Time, Now, Fight, Stop for the next one. He will also have to allow all the dirty fighter to do their thing, because WE hate Floyd. In another case, we will continue to allow Pacquiao to use what ever He wants to use without screening him, because He's a congressman now.

In fact, it seems nobody was exactly sure whether the fight had been restarted.

Including, I believe, Mayweather. Which is why, after suckering Ortiz with the quick left hook, he held back for a moment before unloading the right.

Cortez did a poor job... but it would not have changed the ending.

Cortez said lets go and then turned around to tell time keeper "time in".

Ortiz didnt know Cortez wasnt looking when he went to hug Floyd for then 46th time. Therefore the sequence that followed remains the same.

cortez should've never took his eyes off the action if he told the boxers to box. that's shows cortez's incompetence
