Yes it was a cheap shot, but Ortiz deserved it for being so naive and his nasty headbutts. In general there is an unwritten law between boxers that you dont do that kind of thing. But Floyd was angry and unwritten rules go out the window.
But Floyd has proven he has done this in the past though not as succesful outcome as last night.

      I'm gonna go with this.

I think Ortiz deserved it, but I also believe he actually benefited from it.

Let's face it, he was going to be stopped eventually, this way there will always be that * next to the loss by KO.

Couple that with the ****storm against May, and you have the closest to a win Ortiz could reasonably expect.

Um no. Ortiz already paid for that point deduction and the viewers basically saw him as a menal midget. Had he just got warned or try to play it off then id agree with you. But come on, that shot was just disguisting and that **** just makes boxing look like ****.

I don't know how people can say they were not cheap shots. okay, i understand that it was probably not illegal what floyd did, but to say the two punches that he threw and landed were not sucker punches is just idiotic.

It was cheap. He could have not hugged, or actually seperated from the hug and then fight, but to go in for the hug and without flinching take the cheapshot in a fight you are winning is bs. This does not stand with Mayweather's previous 41 victorys where you see his skill and technique, not tee'ing off on a guy who's not looking as you're engaging in a hug. Really disapointing we didn't get to see him win on pure skill.

It was withing the rules as they where being piss poorly inforced. Cortez is supposed to send both guys to neutral corners, signal time in, then clearly say "FIGHT".

It is clearly a cheapshot and doesnt need a poll. Ray Charles can see it was a cheapshot. Floyd hits him when they are breaking away from an embrace, Ortiz hasnt even time to raise his hands up.

IF anybody has read and noticed anything I've said all day in various threads they know that I am not against what Mayweather did. I think he took advantage of an opportunity that arose because of Ortiz' idiocy, and I also believe that Floyd was PISSED that Ortiz butted him the way that he did. When the ref said "let's go" Mayweather was ready to fight and was done with the I'm sorry. Mayweather did not throw a quick 1-2, but a "slap" left hand, at which point Victor did nothing to protect himself, but instead looked away, almost as if he wanted to be KO'd.

What professional fighter does that? Who gets hit and then looks the other way? It just doesn't make sense. Even if he really thought that they were on a break, which I don't think he truly believes that, why would you not cover up after you got hit, like immediately? He had time before that right hand was thrown to cover and he did not and I just can't think of a logical reason why.

That being said, I still believe that it was a cheap shot, but in that situation, a cheap shot is ok. Cheap shot's aren't always a negative thing, like we saw in the Barrera/Sanchez fight. Sanchez hit him dirty, Barrera got up and cracked him in the jaw knocking him down. Was it a cheap shot? Yes. Was it called for at the same time? Yes.

I am still not sure how I feel about it. I'm confident that Mayweather was going to continue to dominate and was about 3 rounds from knocking him out anyway, but then again, I feel like I got robbed of those rounds of entertainment that I wanted to see. It does take away from the meaning and the win doesn't hold as much weight but it is still a legit win, given the direction that the fight was going and also taking into consideration how dirty Ortiz was fighting the entire time.

Not a Mayweather cheap shot, just an extreme bit of bone headedness by Ortiz. I thought that Ortiz was over the top, appeared to be trying to stall til the end of the round.
