What Mayweather did was technically not a foul but was morally wrong as Ortiz clearly had his hands down and was looking at the referee, to hit the guy who isn't even looking or expecting the punch could have been very dangerous, but it was within the rules and ultimately the fault lies with the referee. Ortiz was confused with what was happening, Mayweather took full advantage by motioning to hug Ortiz and Cortez hadn't even called time in and wasn't even watching. Bottom line is, Cortez needs removing from top flight boxing, he isn't fit to do it - it's big big money now that people pay to go and watch and also pay to watch at home, the least you expect is a referee who can do the basics. Overall a bit of shame the fight didn't play out in the proper way. A few people saying a lesson learnt for Ortiz, I would agree with that to an extent, but the referee in no way helped the situation.

It's a shame Mayweather's performance will probably forever be overlooked because of what happened to end the fight. He was beating a young, hungry, in his prime fighter in Ortiz. The ending ****** but still, Mayweather is really a great fighter, like him or not.
Cortez should never be allowed to referee a top level fight again though, he hasn't been good for a long, long time.

Another example of why in 30 years floyd will not be remembered as the best ever...he's going to be an angry old man. Its sad to see people defend the indefensible. Was it legal? Yes. Is that how the self-proclaimed best ever likes to win? Please. Sad, sad, sad.

Ortiz had that coming. You don't deliberately headbut a guy then try to appologize / hug / kiss a guy...that is bull****. You're not sorry or you wouldn't have deliberately headbutted in the first place!! People don't make this big of a stink about a guy being hit when he is down that THAT is illegal. Guess no one, including a boxer name Ortiz didn't know the saying "protect yourself at all times? Duh.

Ortiz was landing cleaner then anyone else has on Mayweather in some time, & even though Mayweather was taking the shots well and dishing out his own punishment, there was no reason for Ortiz to use his head and it made absolutely no sense to me, considering he was already winning that exchange.
Cortez's only mistake might have been that he didn't instruct Mayweather not to retaliate.
Funny thing is, Mayweather did the exact same thing to Mosley, difference was Mosley kept his hands up and took the shots well.
In the end, all of use as boxing fans know what the # 1 rule is; Protect yourself at all times, Ortiz ****ed up, knew it & got what he deserved.
As well as Ortiz might have been doing, wether he would have been able to keep it up all night is questionable, I think Mayweather would have broken him down eventually. I'm not against a rematch though.
