Then talk about Ortiz being big, strong with comparable speed. No way of actually delivering the power is simply ****** talk,(no disrespect). But Floyd is not going to go 12 rounds against a young, big, strong, fast fighter without feeling Ortiz's power. He 34 & coming off of another long layoff. Bookmark this tread Jangles & remember I told you so.
Mosley last year was every bit as good Ortiz now. Floyd felt that power, which is just as much as Ortiz's, and proceeded to kick the crap out of Mosley.

Ortiz will certainly hit Floyd sometimes. But enough to make Floyd care or enough to win? Not even close. He isn't that good. I don't know why you think he is so much better than he actually is. Who cares how young Ortiz is? He just had a draw with Lamont Peterson. Youth means nothing when you simply aren't as good as your opponent. Ortiz is facing such a skill difference that literally his only chance is to get lucky with a punch.

Ortiz better hope Floyd got old, because otherwise he's in for an ass kicking. And Floyd hasn't been gone that long.

Mosley last year was good as Ortiz is now? Did you even hear yourself? Was the draw to Lamont at welterweight? Further more is Peterson a garbage fighter? Here's a stat for you, Ortiz threw twice as much punches against Berto than in his last what 4-6 fights at 140. Think about that. Clearly he's more productive at 147. But I can't believe that you think Mosley last year was as good as Ortiz now. That is something you should never say outloud. That's just so rediculous.

I don't see what you saw in Ortiz against Berto to convince yourself he's that good. Ortiz was able to throw so many punches against Berto because Berto has no defense and no ability to cut his opponent's workrate. He's there to punch. Ortiz also got hit a lot.

Peterson is not a garbage fighter at all, and I would never say that. But he has many of the all around skills Floyd did, except Floyd is FAR better at it all. And we saw how Peterson controlled that fight the last 5 or 6 rounds.

How is Ortiz going to beat Mayweather? He isn't a pressure fighter, and if he tried to force the action against Mayweather the same way he did against Berto, he'll get smacked around. He's decent at range, but not enough to beat Mayweather that way either. He isn't intelligent enough in the ring to make adjustments when Floyd does. I just can't see it, no matter how I try.

Please convince me, I want to be convinced Ortiz will win this fight. It'd be great to have Ortiz emerge in this fight, but nothing I've ever seen in him has me convinced he can.

Ortiz doesn't have the special gifts to defeat him. He's not a young Floyd vs. an older Floyd. If Ortiz was looking like Floyd back in the day then yea but Floyd has the quickness and speed factor

But most importantly the experience till about the 5th around he start to school him

Father time does beat everyone. And, it will beat Floyd as well. Father time even beats fighters who are just technically and fundamentally sound as Floyd is. But, everybody difference. What will hurt Floyd is not only father time but also his inactivity. He's just too inactive. So sooner or later(It will be sooner) he will lose. But, Ortiz is not the guy. He just not.

1st things 1st. This tread is about the fight being competitive, not Ortiz winning, although I won't be surprised if he did. Lets look at Ortiz 1st. Ortiz threw litterally twice as much against Berto than he did in his last 4-6 fights at 140. What that tells me,(obviously it tells you nothing), is that he has more energy at 147. The power was always there & so was the speed.

Saying Ortiz isn't a pressure fighter, but then turning right around & saying that if he tried to force the fight like he did against Berto makes no sense. Floyd is 34, it will be 16 months since the last time Floyd fought. His last fight was a done Mosley & a tiny Marquez before that. Ortiz is a better welterweight than Marquez will ever be. He threw more punches against a pretty decent puncher at 147 than he had in years at 140.

We're talking welterweight, 140 is irrelevant. Floyd doesn't use his legs like he used to. He's playing the numbers game fighting once every year & a half. He hasn't fought a dangerous fighter in years. He isn't that much faster than Ortiz.

Ortiz can pressure him, just like he did Berto. He did a good job of it. if Garcia gets him to work on the jab, he'll close the distance effectively. All he has to do is force the fight. It's rather simple.

Although Floyd is inactive I don't believe the inactivity will hurt him the way it did Oscar and Sugar Ray Leonard. Those guys were boozing, doing drugs, ad letting their weight balloon up which has a devastating effect on the body especially when you're over 30. Floyd doesn't drink, smoke, and stays in shape year round. Look at Vitali Klitschko and how dominant he has been at his age. It's due to the fact that he stays in shape all year and lives a clean life style.
Floyd also takes minimal punishment in each fight.

I can't see him losing anytime soon if he keeps even 75% of his reflexes. Pacquiao has the only chance of taking Floyd out or even being competitive with him at welterweight.

Ortiz has a crap jab. It would be an amazing turnaround to suddenly have a jab capable of bothering Floyd in the least.

Like I said before, he was more active against Berto because Berto can't stop anyone from being active. The pressure he used against Berto would not work against Mayweather, at all. Floyd's strong enough to clinch, he's better inside, he is great at cutting workrate, and he has enough pop to discourage Ortiz.

You can't just ignore 140. If there was some body of work Ortiz had at 147 that allowed me to ignore 140, I would, but he was there the fight before last. His flaws at 147 are the same as at 140.

Maybe Floyd doesn't use his legs like he used to, he hasn't had to yet and I doubt they are still what they were 5 years ago. But he won't have to against Ortiz either.

The bottom line is the skill difference. Ortiz has a massive disadvantage there, and is not more athletic than Floyd either. Like JRosales said, Mayweather will lose soon. But Ortiz is not that guy.

Good post, the oddsmakers agree with you. It's hard to make a case for Ortiz with the exception of perhaps Floyd continuing to age and slow down. What Ortiz did show against Berto was want. He was mean in that fight. And offensively, he's a very, very good fighter. His defense sucks though and that will likely be his downfall.

                      Really?

And Ortiz really isn't a pressure fighter. At all.

Did you see his fight with Nate Campbell?

I can't think of a single fight that he hasn't backed up at numerous points in the fight and try and box off the back foot.
