I don't think Gary's ready to step up just now. Gamboa and JuanMa hurt him, IMO. The lowest of the three you mentioned, Garcia, is probably too much. (Mikey's gonna be a real force someday, just not now.) Salido muscles Russell (again, my opinion). Gary will (probably) have his day...no need to rush....

there is really no other fighters at featherweight that can show us anything new from Russell.I don't think Gary's ready to step up just now. Gamboa and JuanMa hurt him, IMO. I don't see how is it not the right time. But, they probably will take your approach and he fights Miranda level opponents for the next 6 fights.Comment

good showing, but not really an amazing one. his opponent was suppose to get blown out like he did, kind of wished russell pressed more for a stoppage or something. either way, good showing by him. i think he should face javier fortuna. both guys are young, talented, and undefeated. fortuna also packs a punch, which is something russell needs to be put up against if it isn't an elite world class guy. i'd love to see this matchup get made.Comment

I think he does for 3 or 4 fights. In 18 months or 2 years, they trot out tougher competitipn. Maybe longer. He is after all an al haymon fighter.Comment

Yes, they probably will take that approach...and I don't blame them. I'm looking at it from the handlers' standpoint. Of course, as fans, we want to see things move a little more quickly; but a career is nothing to take lightly, especially a promising one. Why have your kid get spanked and lose confidence...maybe even get his brains scrambled before he's ready? No sense in derailing a career before it even really gets off the ground. I say: let Russell mature a little before presenting him with his first "test".Comment
