Comments Thread For: Tyson Fury-Nicolai Firtha Now in Play For Sept. 17

British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (15-0, 10KOs) is likely going to face Nicolai Firtha (20-8-1, 8KOs) at the King’s Hall in Belfast on September 17, according to the Belfast Telegraph. Fury had initially been scheduled to face Martin Rogan, but they couldn't reach a financial agreement. Then he was going to face unbeaten Leif Larsen from Norway, and now Firtha is the reported frontrunner in a never ending circle of opponents falling out.

Short notice though, mate. Perez and Rogan turned down the fight.

Firtha is BoxRec #70 at heavyweight. He's gone the distance with Povetkin and has a TKO 2 win over Tony Grano.

(Deontay Wilder's last opponent was BoxRec #245 and the one before that was #279).

Firtha is a tough journeyman and okay as a "stay-active" opponent. He always comes to fight.

        Okay. That makes sense.

Nothing wrong with having stay-busy fights, but it's a shame that some of the more interesting possible opponents either didn't get offered the fight or turned it down when it was offered.

Staying active and continuing to learn, the best thing for a fighter like Fury. He shouldn't go for a title til he has alot more experiance.

ive been backing this guy for years.firtha is a great opponent at this point.he is a solid opponent who will give fury some issues.he's big & can take a good punch.he always comes forward & has some experience vs some name opponents.he's had good fights with grano, tye fields, neven pajkic, jason gavern & he went the distance with povetkin.firtha is better then rogan or any other of fury's opponent to this point.he's a solid journeyman & along with gavern has become the most popular opponent for the divisions prospects. id still rather see botha fight him but botha & firtha are on the same level now since botha is 42.i have several of firtha's fights & he is entertaining to watch.i saw him fight tye fields live & it was a great fight until fields knocked him out of the ring with a big left...
