Ok just checked out some MMA/UFC fight, why the hell is that crap compared to boxing?

As a UK fan I don’t get much exposure to this "sport" so I thought with a lot of people talking about it over in Amercia I would check some highlights and a few fights out on youtube. After about 5 fights and some submission highlights plus I saw a fight in walkabout I have come to the conclusion that its simply dreadful. I mean I just can’t believe that anyone would even consider that to be better to watch than boxing. The submission are comical the punching technique was a total joke the kicks made the guys look like a bunch of girls (at one point I burst out laughing). People moan about the holding in boxing but it seemed even worse in the MMA fights I watched but I suppose that’s the point.

This is no offence to guys that like MMA but I just don’t see what you see in it, I am unsure why with the long history and tradition of quality boxing in America that the country would even consider dumping it for that trash stuff.

mma is just more exciting.. if theres 2 boring ass dude in boxing i dont wanna watch that for 12 rounds. in mma if u have 2 sorry ass dudes going at it atleast for a non title bout it'll be over in 3. so u aint gotta sit through all 12 boring ass rounds just to get to the next match.

in the science of fighting there are many many facets, boxing is JUST ONE, of the millions of facets in the world of fighting.......

mma, is a couple of different facets of fighting that incorporate boxing.......

And they execute all those facets poorly outside ground grappling. They don't even execute tachiwaza well, so they only excel at one form of grappling.

and since both are vying for money and attention, both get lumped into the same type category by a few type people...... casual fans mostly, news media who don't know their elbow from a boars arse, then there are the haters of each sport that draw on the likeness to marginalize their opposition.....

Well they aren't that different. They are both combat sports. No point getting too pretentious about something so obvious. One just places more emphasis on a mastery of craft while the other places emphasis on being well rounded in all ranges of combat which winds of leading to mediocrity in most cases. There are exceptions but very few.

look at it this way, in a street fight there are no rules, in boxing there is an agreement to only use fisticuffs, in mma, you agree to stand up fighting as well as ground fighting, kicking, holding and hitting, catch wrestling, etc, etc, you get the picture.....

MMA has rules as well. The only real difference between boxing and MMA is what you are allowed to strike with. THAT'S IT.

it's the marketing and the selling of the product that really is the same, but the ufc and all of mma have got their marketing and sales skills down pat, FAR BETTER THAN BOXING!!!

Yet the taxes that boxing pays exceeds the money generated from MMA on a whole. Get real.

Dana White is also no Don King or Bob Arum. He knows this. They know it. White takes most of his pages from the book of King and Arum.

I don't know where "here" is, but MMA is in no way shape or form a threat to boxing. Not in PPV numbers, money generated, tickets sold, purses for fighters, not in ANY category. I think you're a bit out of your mind when stating boxing is going to get left out in the dust by MMA.

boxing is like afghanistan, it's all a bunch of different tribes fussing and fighting, and nothing really gets accomplished as a whole, just small victories for the tribes when they win...... which does nothign for the country or their people as a whole because they're fighting with one another too much...

Boxing is more popular in every aspect. The numbers show that. Not the opinions of the fans.

i'm not saying the wars are good or anything, i am ANTIWAR..... but the point that i am making is, they aren't organized into one country agenda, they have dozens of different agendas, like boxing and it's promoters, all the while the ufc and most of mma is this organized machine that has a plan and is executing what it thinks it's purpose needs are........

Boxing is much more organized than MMA. Its just that boxing has a better product and talent pool that has been established over 100 years ago. Boxing doesn't have to have 3 champions on one card because boxing doesn't have to try as hard. The proof again is in the numbers.

The UFC is forced to give superior efforts in order to have a glimmer of a chance against boxing. Its forced to put forth its best of the best all on one night against a so-called boring boxing undercard and boxing STILL does better numbers. Facts are facts.

the ufc just keeps growing and consuming it's competition, which is a good business model but also kind of scary, i don't like monopolies, but you have to admire the determination and skills the ufc and ma have in competing with and trying to take over the worlds attention in combat sports

The UFC has consumed its other MMA competition, but the UFC is no competition for boxing itself. You deluding yourself. Let MMA try charging $59.99US for an event and see how well it does. It would be a bust. And Dana White knows this. He's smart, but he's got an inferior product and he knows it.

There are very few guys that are dominant in MMA, and that's because they haven't mastered their craft. MMA will never have an Ernesto Hoost or a Floyd Mayweather. Its not designed to produce those level of athletes. Its designed to produce extremely athletic, very replaceable fighters that will NEVER become bigger than the promoter and owner Dana White. If anything, THAT is the reason why White is so smart. He underpays his fighters and makes sure that the majority of his fighting stock are cookie cutter fighters that can be replaced with a younger, stronger model at any given notice.

Think about that.

boxing doesn't, boxing is full of arrogance from the powers that be, and they're going to feel the hurt when they realize they have destroyed boxing with their greed and short sighted-ness......

Now that is something I agree with to a point. Every sport has arrogant powers that be, including baseball, basketball and football. They are all greedy, and the fans are still fanatics. Boxing is no different except IMO boxing fans over the last decade or two have gotten a bit more dense and down right ****** due to a lot of hateful uneducated people becoming casual fans.

I am with you when you say that the greed from promoters, networks and the alphabet belts are hurting boxing? Destroying it? Hardly. What's really destroying boxing is the lack of resources being put back into the communities to discover and hone the future Mayweather's, Ali's, Sugar's, Tyson's, Duran's, Camacho's, Chavez', Sweet Pea's, Hagler's, etc.

I pretty much dislike Oscar DelaHoya, but I applaud the fact that he is starting boxing gyms and youth programs all over America. He's at least smart enough to put back into the pool of talent even if he has a vested interest.

sometimes theres even 3 champions fighting on the same night under different class. u will never see this in boxing. in boxing only the main event is worth watching. when people buy ppv for boxing its for the main event.

As I said above, MMA HAS TO DO THAT! Boxing doesn't have to do that when it can make three different events with 3 different undercards. Boxing doesn't have to try that hard. MMA has to donate bone marrow just to seem as if its competing.

I like MMA. I've probably been watching it longer than most of the people here. However the only way MMA will ever be bigger than boxing is if:

1 - Boxing becomes outlawed

2 - MMA begins to have Bloodsport type "kill or be killed" type matches where the fans determine whether or not the loser lives. Good luck getting away with that. Just ask Michael Vick.

I personally think MMA is crap and it hold absolutely no interest for me. I think it's "popularity" is due to the fact that it's perceived as being more brutal and violent than boxing hence it attracts all the violence freaks that, unfortunately, are always with us. You may have seen some of them here on Boxing Scene.....they're the ones who watch boxing solely to see someone get KTFO. Hope that makes sense to you
