Ok just checked out some MMA/UFC fight, why the hell is that crap compared to boxing?

MMA is just not that aesthetically pleasing. I'm sure there is a lot of skill and athleticism involved, but it sure is boring to watch.

UFC cards are a lot better than Boxing cards, I don't really care about the undercard fights before the main event in Boxing usually. But in the UFC the fans generally know who the fighters are in the undercards and the fights are exciting. Imagine Klitschko and Pacquiao being on the same card, in the UFC you'll see two champions fighting on the same card.

When we compare main events from both sports they are about the same sometimes.

in the science of fighting there are many many facets, boxing is JUST ONE, of the millions of facets in the world of fighting.......

mma, is a couple of different facets of fighting that incorporate boxing.......

and since both are vying for money and attention, both get lumped into the same type category by a few type people...... casual fans mostly, news media who don't know their elbow from a boars arse, then there are the haters of each sport that draw on the likeness to marginalize their opposition.....

look at it this way, in a street fight there are no rules, in boxing there is an agreement to only use fisticuffs, in mma, you agree to stand up fighting as well as ground fighting, kicking, holding and hitting, catch wrestling, etc, etc, you get the picture.....

the point i am making is they are two different sports within the same sport... or art, or science if you will..... budo!!!!

it's the marketing and the selling of the product that really is the same, but the ufc and all of mma have got their marketing and sales skills down pat, FAR BETTER THAN BOXING!!!

dana white is no dummy when it comes to making money, why do you think he went and is doing deals with WWE and their tv sources....??? their about to get real big here in the next few years. just watch, and if boxing doesn't get its head out of it's ass, it's going to get left in the dust.

boxing is like afghanistan, it's all a bunch of different tribes fussing and fighting, and nothing really gets accomplished as a whole, just small victories for the tribes when they win...... which does nothign for the country or their people as a whole because they're fighting with one another too much....

i'm not saying the wars are good or anything, i am ANTIWAR..... but the point that i am making is, they aren't organized into one country agenda, they have dozens of different agendas, like boxing and it's promoters, all the while the ufc and most of mma is this organized machine that has a plan and is executing what it thinks it's purpose needs are........

not so much with boxing, arum fussing with GBP, GBP fussing with Shaw, shaw fussing with this guy, don king is fighting all of them, etc..........

the ufc just keeps growing and consuming it's competition, which is a good business model but also kind of scary, i don't like monopolies, but you have to admire the determination and skills the ufc and ma have in competing with and trying to take over the worlds attention in combat sports, boxing doesn't, boxing is full of arrogance from the powers that be, and they're going to feel the hurt when they realize they have destroyed boxing with their greed and short sighted-ness......

different strokes for different folks...i must admit that there is a sense of showmanship in MMA/UFC that attracts me to it because of my younger WWE days..but i too used watch it for the slobber knockin and hated the ground stuff..but it slowly grew on me as i learned about the sport more..and in general i just watch all combat sports (MMA, Boxing, Muay Thai, K1)....

Good post also Aldo is a beast! To you people saying MMA is boring watch him fight and eat your words. Also guys watch the Cain highlight when he takes an opponent down he has great ground and pound.

sometimes theres even 3 champions fighting on the same night under different class. u will never see this in boxing. in boxing only the main event is worth watching. when people buy ppv for boxing its for the main event.

Yep that's how it is usually, I think a lot of Boxing fans are insecure. If some don't like MMA ok that's their taste, but I see some ignorant comments sometimes. It happens with MMA fans in regards to Boxing too, I've had my debates with them too but when I see ignorance I question the person.

It's much better to enjoy both sports.

MMA is never going to be as exciting as boxing. I've been watching MMA for over 20 years and boxing for decades.

MMA does have a skill-set. Its not specialized as boxing, so the fighters for the most part do become jacks of all trades, masters of none. The grappling aspect is the highest form of skill you'll find in those events, and its definitely NOT the grappling part that sells the tickets.

Boxing has a rich history and is probably the oldest sport still going in America. There are different levels of skill, but at the highest level its a thing of beauty to watch. Boxing, like baseball, has played a role in the socio-political stages of America. Its an amazing sport that has had so many special moments that it is landmark of American history in its own right.

MMA is not new. In comparison to boxing it is new, but in terms of how long its been around MMA has been televised since the 80's. All one had to do was watch a Shooto or Pancrase event and you were basically watching MMA. And IMO it was better back then. Not showcasing, but the format was IMO.

Boxing showcases the best boxers. No fighter from any other sport is going to come in and beat a top level boxer no matter how much success he's enjoyed in his own sport ... unless weight is not an issue.

MMA has seen rookies come in and KO champions. The reason is that there is very little room for mastery outside of grappling in MMA. Proof of that is seen in the fact that MMA fighters only excel at grappling.

MMA fighters won't win in K-1. MMA fighters won't win in pro boxing. The only chance that they have to dominate is in grappling events like the Abu Dhabi .. an all grappling/no striking event.

MMA has excitement, but MMA overestimates its fanbase's combat IQ. Although deep and intricate, grappling will NEVER have the appeal of striking. Its just a simple truth. That's why a mediocre competitor like Kimbo Slice can be much more popular than a masterful grappler like Nogueira. People remember the guy who delivers the knockdowns and knockouts.

Its a shame but its true: the average, casual fan HATES thinking. They just want to be entertained, and anything aside from landing bombs, knockdowns and knockouts requires a refined appreciation beyond the primal screams of the typical Colosseum chanter.

MMA changed its format years ago from allowing average joes to pros to compete with whatever they've learned, to creating a dominant format which consisted of stand up kickboxing, to in-fighting with muay thai, to using BJJ(submission wrestling) and ground and pound once it hit the ground. Its the same ole same ole.

The heads of MMA wised up though. Each federation has its "out-of-the-box" competitors. Those guys that came in with their own styles outside of the dominant boring format. Cropcop, Coleman, Fedor, Wanderlei Silva, Igor Vovchanchyn, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Lyoto Machida, Anderson Silva, BJJ Penn, Jon Jones, Cung Le, Josh Barnett, etc. These gusy were stars because they were dominant without having to conform to the cookie cutter styles that MMA had laid out.

But the real question is how many "out-of-the-box" competitors does a federation need to keep their events exciting and fresh? Its basically like saying "I'll make my event 90% fluff and 10% substance with the main event".

How many people want to see two guys putting on a mediocre kickboxing match until someone closes the distance and attempts either a takedown or some muay thai knees and low kicks? Then it turns into a grappling match where two men wrestle around on the ground for 10 minutes or so.

That's where MMA loses a lot of people. You can only see that but so many times a night, and the matches look a lot alike. It forces people to look deeper into the grappling to appreciate the subtle differences, and that's something that most are NOT willing to do.



You sir, are smoking crack. Fedor was one of the most dominant athletes ever in MMA. He had such an unorthodox approach to the sport. He wasn't a juice head like many of the other MMA fighters clearly are, and he could easily win through both striking or submission. The guy was a phenom.

Fans like you are the kind that like to piss on a great fighter once he's lost or declined. Fans like you said that once Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Ray Robinson, Ali, Ray Leonard, Roy Jones lost that they were all "hypejobs".

I found that more funny than exciting, some of those moves are straight out of a comedy film, and all that stuff on the ground is gross to watch.

Of course it's funny that's what it's supposed to be. Ever seen Augustus fight? Roy Jones? Mayweather occasionally as well.

They all clown around. They're showmen.

And if you're watching the ground game and you think its g@y... well, that's your problem. Cause I still see a fight.

So you guys get to see Cain vs. JDS on Fox and right after see Pacquiao-Marquez 3. If you guys aren't fans of MMA trust me, watch the main event. It's the biggest HW fight in the last 6 years. The 2 best HWs, the 2 most dominate HWs going at it.

You guys are lucky, while I have to sit through a shitty Top Rank undercard you guys get to watch an amazing fight. Unless of course you're not fight fans and would rather sit through a Top Rank undercard...

I strongly hate the "lay and pray" strategy, but some wrestlers aren't like that. There are some MMA fighters who are proficient in wrestling but are also geniuses on their back, constantly working for a better position or trying to go for a submission. In every sport, there are fighters that have limited skill-sets. It's just more apparent in MMA. But, you have certain fighters that are so skilled in striking that they almost never have to resort to take-downs although they have that in their arsenal just in case. A. Silva is a good example, look how he destroyed Okami. Look up Pat Curran's KO of Marlon Sandro. Boxing/striking is very much a part of MMA but it just isn't the only one. That's why I love both.

When boxing is on, I watch boxing. When UFC is on, I watch UFC.
However, when they are both on at the same time, i have to make a choice. Last week, I chose UFC-Rio over Helenius/Liakhovich.
