How can the RING possibly justify ranking Cotto as the #1 Junior-Middleweight?

Seems like you're going out of your way to discredit the lad.

Its clear as day but a Stan like you wouldn't comprehend.

That's the way THE RING title is won, not how lineage is passed on.

There's really no one OFFICIAL way to track lineage.

Like i said before, lineage doesn't disapear just because 1 & 2 doesn't fight. This is how the RING crowns champs, not how lineage is passed on.

To be a lineal champ, you don't have to be the RING champ.

But most oftenly, if you're the RING champ, you're also the lineal champ as well.

If that makes any sense LAWL'z

If the person leaves the division or vacates, then it's broken, and the #1 and #2 need to fight and it starts over from there. That's why after Lennox Lewis retired there was no true lineal champion for some time (not until the #1 fought the #2).

And lol @ chris byrd becoming the lineal champion after Vitali retired.
So Wlad isn't the lineal champ currently? How did he win the RING title? He never fought Vitali who has been ranked the #2 Heavyweight since '08.

Sure there is, it's called, "the man who beat the man who beat the man"

When the world title can't be traced that way, lineage is broken.

For example, the lineage at heavyweight was broken when Lennox Lewis retired. And some, myself included, would argue that the heavyweight title has not been legitimately filled since, and that the lineage remains broke, and the title VACANT.

The 154 lb lineage has been in shambles for years and no clear claim can be made by anyone at that weight. Get the real #1 and #2 contenders (who might be beltholders themselves) in the ring and the winner starts a new linear claim.

It looks like determining the Lineal champion is all subjective dependent upon the general public/sanctioning bodies opinion.

Meaning as long as long as a fighter has strong opposition and is champion, one can make an argument for him to be lineal champion.

In this case, it looks like the the fighter with the best claim to the Lineal Championship would be the one with the stronger strength of schedule....

wrong. He beat the #2 guy who was Sultan Ibragimov. Vitali was retired and didn't make his return until 6 months later or more.

                  Make sense.

But Cotto still has no business being ranked #1 or anywhere ahead of Bundrage when his victories @ 154 are not as quality as Bundrage's. And Bundrage has no business being ranked as low as #7.

Bundrage is the lineal champ, or at the very least has more of a claim to the #1 spot than anybody else in the division. Just depends on how you track the lineage. It's all subjective really.

Bundrage is a lineal champ by default. He won the fight between #1 and #2 after the titile was vacated. JMW has been a weak division especially when Martinez left

Nope. Wlad somehow became the RING champ by beating #3 ranked Chagaev in '09.

Can't recall what the RING's reasoning was for awarding Wlad the RING belt for beating the #3 guy.

But this proves my point about the RING and their inconsistency.

Still the lesser of the evils compared to the alphabet organizations though.
