He's not welterweight champion. He has a paper belt. Ortiz is on his way, but I'm not going to forget 2 years of struggling because of one fight.

Khan has done quite a bit to redeem himself, Ortiz just has to do more. This fight with Floyd is probably happening too soon. If he gets embarrassed, it could set him right back where he was after the Maidana fight.

I don't think losing to Floyd is a setback in the slightest. It's actually normal. Ortiz is in a win win situation to me. Besides I'm almost certain he'll be competitive, which is the most any fighter can hope for.

It shouldn't be a setback, especially if Ortiz is game, but I'm not sure Ortiz can handle being humiliated the way I expect him to be humiliated. He's already proven he doesn't have the strongest mentality.

We'll see, there is nothing wrong with losing to Floyd but hopefully it doesn't mess Ortiz up again. We don't need Ortiz to end up being the new Judah.

BTW Jangles, if Ortiz is a paper titlist, are there any champions at welterweight then? If so how & who & why?

It's an argument between Pacquiao and Mayweather. If you still recognize Mayweather beating Mosley as making him the man at welterweight, since Mosley was the man at welterweight, then it's Mayweather. All I know is that Berto never had any claim as the real welterweight champion, so Ortiz sure as hell doesn't.

If you recognize Pacquiao's recent body of work and the fact he fights more often, then it's Pacquiao.

Personally I think Mayweather is THE welterweight champion, because of the Mosley win. It hasn't been that long since that fight.

I believe that Ortiz is a champion. There are 4 major titles in each division. Ortiz owns one of them. Now is he the highest ranked overall? Probably not. But he is a champion & ranked highly. I consider paper titlist to be when 2 fighters fight for a vacant world title, or when a fighter jumps up in weight to beat some cherrypicked guy then imidiately vacates the title instead of fighting a legitamte contender. But Ortiz did earn his title to champion, imo.
