you're probably right, but if he did sign a new contract extension i don't know why he would do so with another year and a half remaining on his current contract. last i heard the judge ruled in favor of top rank after he signed with golden boy - donaire thought his contract had ran out, because arum failed to give him the stipulated number of fights. but apparently since it wasn't "top rank's" fault he didn't get his fights (he was injured), it extends his contract through 2013.
can somebody else help clarify?
I think you have it just right.ntract was to expire on June 26th 2011. Oscar went after him in his usual way some time around April, (I think)and persuaded him that his contract was already void because Top Rank had not given him the contracted 3 fights a year. So he signed with Golden Balls. When Arum found out he brought it to court and it was arbitrated before Judge Weinstein. Arum pointed out that, although the contract ended on June 26th, it had been automatically extended (in the contract) by the fact that Donaire was unable to fight for 2 medically suspended periods of 6 months each, automatically extending the contract to June 2012. He also added that there was an extension clause allowing Top Rank to extend for another 12 months, which clause Top Rank was going to invoke. Therefore the contract really ran out at end of June 2013 as you point out and that's how it got to be that way.
As for making a new contract for 4 years. I suggest that since Arum wanted him, and Donaire realised he'd made a messup, he was happy to re-sign with Arum for a completely new contract of 4 years, ending in 2015. Arum, for the longer date, likely made it a little sweeter for Donaire.
My opinon was that Donaire was a complete idiot to mess around with Golden Balls just before he was going to have a unification fight for $500,000 with a guaranteed $750,000 for his next fight in Dec. making $1.25 mill PLUS in one year. How many bantams get that kind of money???
He'll prepare for the heavier divisions the usual way, which is with sparring partners. When he moves up is not yet determined, and it's only sometimes that a suitable, not too dangerous opponent in the heavier division is available at the right time.
My opinion.
I see that he says he's moving up right after this next fight, so he must be doing a lot of starving to keep his present weight as he's a big guy. I think he might have at least one fight against a good but not great opponent at the higher weight before tackling a champion. But who knows the chance might come along right away, and as I said, he's a big guy and the weight differences at those divisions are very small. Nobody knows what's in Arum's mind, but it's usually what's best for his fighter, his company and the fans.

I agree - I believe he will take on a high class journeyman type guy when he moves up, and then hopefully go for rigo next! If he gets by Rigo, then Im hoping he goes to featherweight, and first takes on another journeyman type guy, and then gamboa!
But Arum, I'd say his interests are in the following order: his company's financial health, the fighter, and then the fans. . .
Omar was strong as flyweight and very good as superflyweight but he has not the power to give troubles to NONITO,i see this fight as a brutal end of a very good carrer...............NONITO will punish him in two rounds if he wants to do it,sad!!!
