he would have accomplished more at 168 in 2 years than Calzaghe did in 10 years. He would still need to unify the other belts though by beating bute.

Joe had all those title defenses, he unified 168 and he was Ring Champion in two divisions.

If Froch wins, yes. I'd have more respect for what Froch has done in his career than what Calzaghe did.

I don't think so.

Imo i rank hopkins AND Kessler as better wins than the kessler and froch that ward potentially beat.
I hardly even count Roy Jones as a decent win, but Eubank i think should qualify as that. Very Faded sure, but not shot to **** like Jones.

Add to that longevity (24-0 in titlefights) and a lot of decent to good wins (reid, brewer, lacy, mitchell etc) in favor of calzaghe. I still have him greater than both these men by quite a good margin.

But I'll listen to arguments that I'm wrong.

I don't think either one of them reaches Calzaghe by winning the tournament. Ward especially doesn't reach that level because apart from the Kessler win he's faced pretty soft opposition in Allan Green, Sakio Bika and an Arthur Abraham coming off two straight losses. He needs to do a lot more before he even puts himself in the same sentence as Calzaghe.
Froch may have a legitimate shot of eclipsing Calzaghe but there are some qualifications that need to be placed on his resume. Though Froch definitely becomes one of the biggest names in the sport with a win, especially after the hellish road he's gone through, he doesn't have the talent that Calzaghe has (this is coming from a Froch fan) and has shown, particularly in the Dirrell fight, that he can be beaten by a slick and accurate puncher. While Calzaghe ducked a lot of fighters towards the end of his career, he never really looked beatable the way Froch does even if Froch is willing to take on a tougher schedule.
