Actually I believe mares wants the fight too. But if he loses it puts a dent on his chances at a big money fight with donaire and puts a damper on golden boy's effort of molding him into the next mexican star. So I think schaeffer will bypass the rematch altogether to make a donaire fight happen which will only boost mares' fanbase given the philippines-mexico rivalry.
Abner mares will duck the agbeko rematch

No it because it takes 2 to come together. And, contrary to what you might believe Top Rank doesn't really like doing business with GBP.
I could see it being realist if Donaire went with GBP. But, since Arum made sure he stayed. It's not as realistic which sucks for Donaire cuz' Arum has promoted him poorly.
It is more realistic that Donaire fights Agbeko than he does Mares. It's also probably that Donaire fights Narvaez, then moves up to fight Arce or WV2.
While it would be more realistic(if your theory goes through of Mares ducking Agbeko) that Mares will fight fellow GBP Moreno for the WBA belt.Last edited by jrosales13; 08-22-2011, 01:07 AM.Comment

well after the situation with donaire trying to run away from arum to gbp, i doubt arum would want to make a fight where donaire is facing a gbp fighter. you know arum, he'll find another opponent that's under his wing or on another promotion company. that said, i doubt mares will try to back out or injure himself to avoid an agbeko rematch. he fought him before and will want to prove his win over agbeko.Comment

But, Donaire is the biggest name and the most popular in the division. You said he has only been on HBO once...Meaning what exactly? You making it seem like that's the reason he's not the big money fight. But, that's one more than Agbeko and Mares put together. So? that's like saying chocacalito is most popular guy in his weight division.. it doesn't make it a big money fight No one really pay's attention to this weight classes except us (hardcore boxing fans) I think a rematch with agbeko would make more money considering the controversy
Calderon might still be the biggest money in the division and the most popular. However, soon Chocolatito can take over
I don't see how anybody does not thing that Donaire won't be the biggest money fight at 118. Nothing else would be bigger for any other bantamweight.Comment

Uh No Mares has fought on HBO b4 on the undercard of JMM vs Pac 2 and i'm saying the money difference between mares vs king kong 2 is not that much different then mares vs donaireBut, Donaire is the biggest name and the most popular in the division. Yes it would be much different. Top 2 in the division at least for now. Philippines vs mexico, and donaire and mares both have massive fanbases in california.Comment

Nah man, I don't see it. I think Agbeko and Mares are capable of beating each other. There's no reason for Mares to fear a rematch. It's a 50/50 fight, Mares may even be a slight favorite.Comment

Well that fight wasn't on HBO. Since that even was on PPV. But, I guess you count HBO PPV as HBO. While IMO both are different. But, OK point taken and noted.
I just know that Mares would make more money with Donaire than he would with Agbeko. Especially since you look at how much HBO budget is compare to Showtime(if the rematch takes place on Showtime).
I guess I misread this.
Because, I disagree Donaire is the biggest money fight in the division for any fighter. But, if you mean the difference will be minimal then OK I disagree but won't argue it.Originally posted by PrincepeUnless he wants to get stripped i very much doubt that and donaire is NOT a big money fight he has barely fought 1 time on HBO in his entire careerComment

I'm glad most of you don't believe that. Although no one can predict injuries.... Abner has every intention to fight Joseph Agbeko again.
If he was worried about losing... he would of never enter the Bantamweight Tournament.Comment
