Hopkins vs. Dawson is on PPV???

I'm sorry but who's idea was this?

Two cautious low output counterpunchers on PPV? This feels like a holdup. Is anyone actually going to pay for this?

Perhaps this explains why Hopkins claims to want to get a k.o despite the fact we all know he's not knocking out Dawson.

I was a bit shocked myself, but the undercards look good and I'm definitely buying it. Everybody was getting on BHop for ''cherry picking'' at this point in his career and ducking Dawson, so if they wanted to see the old man lose to Bad Chad so bad now's their chance. That being said I definitely think Dawson is getting knocked down once or twice.

Its because BUMS like Andre Berto and Devon Alexander get payed millions from HBO because Al-Haymon and co blackmail / bribe HBO to put ***** fighters on and pay them millions of dollars when they have no talent.

Reason that Hopkins vs Dawson is on ppv because HBO had no money in their budget for this fight.

Thats what happens when you deal with Al-Haymen, you pay his 3-4 fighters 80% of your yearly budget despite his fighters having 0 fans or selling power.

If Cloud vs. Pascal is going to be on the undercard, which I read is a possibility, plus one more decent scrap and this card would be worth the price IMO.

Yeah it is a huge joke. And HBO and the big networks wonder why people resort to illegal streams, it's because they put everything on PPV now.

You bring up a good point. Berto is basically HBO's version of the Peterson brothers. The fact hat he takes away from the budget when his whole career has been on network television and has only fought maybe 3 people worth noting is disgusting. I looked everywhere for a Hopkins DVD career set with 40+ fights and when I finally found one, a good amount of his earlier stuff looks like it was recorded by someone in the audience. This guy has broken enough records and made enough history that there should be a budget for him by now. Why Berto is still on HBO is a wonder to me being that he basically fought fight 5 times in the past 3 years, including what I thought was a loss to Collazo (didn't want a rematch), looked like crap against Urango in one of the most boring fights I've ever seen, pulled out against Mosley (I understand his reason but he still pulled out), and lost his last fight. I can see why the Ortiz fight was HBO, but he's already getting another title shot when they practically gave away the 1st one to him? The kid is only 27, let him earn it a little.

Actually, it's an HBO PPV because HBO's budget for the year is pretty much tapped. The only way they can make this fight happen this year is to have it on PPV. Otherwise it would have to wait until 2013.

So, while many people b!tch and moan about PPV's, rightfully so most of the time, in cases like this PPV is the only way to make certain fights happen. If HBO didn't invest all their damn money in bradley & alexander, this fight would have been on regular HBO. But because HBO poorly invests in fighters with no fanbases, things like this happen. It's unfortunate, but on the positive note Ross Greenburg is gone now and hopefully HBO will do a better job spending money in 2013.

I don't which fight let me down more, Alexander-Bradley or Alexander-Matthyse. I mean I used to watch him on Telemundo in his early days so I always knew Matthyse hit hard and everything, but his fights in Mexico don't always display the boxing tools he's been using as of late. I didn't think Devon would look so damn terrible in his comeback fight? I hope he never gets an HBO deal again.

The morons at HBO offered a minimum of $1.3 million to the winner AND loser when they signed bradley-alexander. So Devon, even though he put on a terrible display against Bradley (and his fight prior to that) paid him $1.3 million for his stinker against Matthyse.

It's nutty to see what a Mayweather endorsement can do for a fighter's cash flow.
