what is so incredible about jeff lacy ?

i see a lot of people recently turning into jeff lacy fans in this forum .

i just dont share their enthusiasm .

    here is why :

-jeff lacy's power : OVERRATED . he is strong , he is very very heavy handed , but lets face it he couldnt stop ross thompson and richard grant . both are far from 168 pounds pernell whitakers and thompson was destroyed in 4 rounds by fernando vargas at 154. omar sheika is a durable fighter but if you really are a 4#4 puncher you stop him .

-jeff lacy's style : very entertaining . bullies people to the rope and pummels them with nice combos . but against a slick rangy boxer , its not gonna work . and he can be easily countered.

-jeff lacy chin : has it been tested by a big hitter ? No , so it s hard to figure . look good tough.

    good points :

-willing to line them up , goes for the big guns . i give him respect for that .

    - has a very good jab when he reminds to use it.

_ his marketing power : this guy has superstar written all over him . he has the looks , the style the arrogance of the boxing champ . he can be a mainstream audience star .

    jeff lacy main rivals :

kessler : people assume he is gonna get beat up but admit it , have you seee him fight ? no ? me neither .

calzaghe : calzaghe is bigger than lacy . yeah really . and he can box from the outside , and he can punch . if he mans up and take the challenge of lacy he has a very good chance of beating him .

he steps up in weight tarver may outbox him badly and pressure isnt enough against glen johnson , who are big 175 pounders .

in a few words , let s wait before making him the feared KO artist he isnt .

THe reason Jeff Lacy has a good future is because he's still learning, and he's all ready damn good. He throws his jab to get inside and throw combos extremely well and has all around pretty good defense along to go with his power.

I like that you said he was heavy handed, which I believe is an accurate statement. THe Robin Reid is a good example in that he just knocked Reid around, even though it wasn't nescesarily KO blows (although that could be Reid's tough chin).

His future is bright and the kid has talent.

Some people just go a little over the top sometimes... They like Lacy because he's an exciting fighter to watch, but being an exciting fighter doesn't always make you the best.

People have to take things into context... i.e. Lacy was impressive in beating Robin Reid, but Robin Reid had last won a World title 8yrs previous, and the Lacy fight was after the longest spell of inactivity in Reids whole career. + Reid did absolutly no sparring in the lead up to the fight, he just did shadow boxing by the side of a swimming pool.

Lacy could become a great fighter one day if he learns well and adapts, but he's not done anything particulary special in his career yet.

I know what you mean Tino, with regards to people just going over the top about a fighter that's not proved anything yet... It's kinda like setting Lacy up for a big fall.

as i stated before , it s marketing thing . if he was a tall lanky redneck , with pictures of him and his favorites cows in "bob the farmer " magazine with the same record , nobody would like him .

but he is build like a tank and is in "pimp my ride yo" magazine with his cars who are all at least 5 times bigger than the average french car . superstar baby !

I like the way he comes out to a patriotic crowd with "Born in the USA"... even though Born in the USA is a song satirising the US.

good analysis. I agree with it all but his pros outweight the cons and since hes a young fighter he will only get better.
