Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, consider Manny Pacquiao to be a good fighter and a big star in the sport, but he feels the Filipino's epic rise was helped in part by Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s long layoffs from the sport. Mayweather will hit the ring on September 17th against WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, which is the first fight for Mayweather since the win over Shane Mosley in May 2010.

Mayweather was absent from the sport because he didn't want to come face to face with Margarito and Cotto. Plus, there was all that "stuff" inside his bloodstream that he had to cover up.

Poor Ellerbe who got stuck with a coward named Duckweather.

It must suck being associated with the World's Number 1 Coward in the world. Go hide behind Golden Boy Promotions also I won't be surprised if Duckweather won via Split Decision since I'm sure they already bought out the judges and referee.

if mayweather fights every 5 to 6 months.there's no way pacquiao looks this good in the media or in boxing general.

This, naturally, will incite plenty of ignorance, but I'm not sure why. It's true.

Floyd retiring when he did, leaving the DLH rematch and rumored Hatton rematch on the table, allowed Pacquiao to fight those guys. Manny went on and dominated, thus propelling his rise to superstardom and adding to his legend. Then he fought Cotto, a guy many wanted to see Floyd fight.

Yes, Floyd leaving boxing when he did is what opened the door for Manny.
