Comments Thread For: Eddie Chambers Brings in Steward For Thompson Bout

According to heavyweight contender Eddie Chambers (36-2, 18KOs), Emanuel Steward is now his head trainer. Chambers is scheduled to fight Tony Thompson (36-2, 24KOs) in an IBF eliminator. The fight is likely going to take place on the Andre Ward-Carl Froch super middleweight unification on October 29th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Froch-Ward will be televised by Showtime, but there is no indication if the network plans to televise the heavyweight bout.

great move by chambers but thompson is a big, long, awkward southpaw who is quite defensive so its going to be tough to hit him. he is slow so chambers needs to use his handspeed & boxing skills to beat him. obviously chambers will need to get inside but can he get away from thompsons octoupus arms.this could be a very boring tactical fight but i still hope its televised on the undercard. it is an important mandatory challenger fight. i see thompson hugging out a win...

Well of course not, but it's at least a matchup between two top ten guys. Those have been thin on the ground lately.

This fight will probably not be exciting, but it's a good skill match up. Thompson and Chambers are both skilled heavyweights. Chambers is more flashy and fast, but Thompson is more methodical and defensive. Don't let Thompson's clumsy look fool you, the guy is very crafty and experienced and he is hard to look good against let alone beat, Klitschko struggled against his style and southpaw stance. He definitely looked alot better against klitschko than chambers did. Expect chambers to look decent the first 4 rounds, and then you will see thompson starting to get his jab off and he will pick chambers apart, and win a UD. scores like 116-112 115-113. Thompson isn't a great fighter but he's quite underrated nonetheless. just my two cents.

Good move by Chambers. His old trainer Rob Murray is an idiot. I remember him saying "Wlad is just another Dimitrenko, Chambers will whoop his ass"

              Chambers will beat Thompson.

Chambers would have beaten Thompson without anything at all added to his game as long as he comes to the fight in good shape.

Chambers should be able to pull out a lopsided decision.
