Why do the US audience react so badly to Witter when he does flash moves/showboating?

No flames or racism please, just a straight answer.

I caught the Witter-N'Dou fight again the other day, and was amazed at how much the crowd hated Witter for all his flashy moves (which were also attacking moves - they weren't flash without substance) yet Roy Jones gets crowds yelping for his chicken dance.

Is it because he doesn't have an established rep? Cos he's not from the US? What?

    hmm

He doesn't have an established rep like Roy Jones did. Roy Jones was a great going on his last tour (hopefully) so even ppl that didn't like him b4 were showing some respect.

I've never seen Witter fight but he doesn't really have a rep and maybe it was just an N'dou crowd.

Roy Jones actually gets called all kinds of racist crap by a lot of people for showboating, as do several black fighters who have ever dared to showboat.

I love showboating myself, if someone is a good enough fighter. Junior Witter definitely is good enough.

Cheers for the considered answers, both. I was afraid this would turn into flame city. I think there's a lot of truth in what you both say.

Those booing were probably American fight fans who remember his putrid performance against Zab Judah a few years ago.

One particular bit I remember is that Witter basically backed N'Dou up over the entire ring without even throwing a single punch. To be able to freak out an opponent that much takes some skill, but the crowd booed Witter to Hell for it.

Yeah, he didn't even have a punch then, did he? Weird. I think if he'd had a punch that could have been a different fight. I'm not saying he would have won, but it would have been more competitive, at least...
