Arturo Gatti (RIP): Floyd's first PPV, and the fight that launched him into the mainstream, setting up the Delahoya fight.

Each of these guys was/IS special to the boxing community. I just find this an eerie coincidence.

What's even more eerie is that these three fighters (RIP) define Mayweather and none of them are all time top 100. The only all time top pound for pound fighters Mayweather defeated (Mosley and Oscar) were beaten by Pacquiao in a manner ten times more severe than did Mayweather.

And, then add that Valero who sparred with Oscar until he got kicked out for kicking Oscar ass and giving him a black eye(which shamelessly try to give Ortiz the credit for ) ended up dying...

              Oscar=

And, with the Floyd examples you added. Both of these guys have an eerie thing going..It could mean that very soon one of these will meet their maker. Hoping is not Floyd

Wow, this thread is getting weirder by the minute.

If you talk about death to much, it will show up.

I say we end this thread and don't talk about it but say we did.

And to imagine that this is one of Mayweather's defining fights....sickens me every time I think about it. As Corrales said in a prefight interview, when asked WHY he took the fight when he couldn't make the weight, "They made me an offer I just couldn't refuse"....
The guy was desperate for cash, owed his lawyers, and had already been found guilty and went to jail almost right after the fight. His life was in tatters.

He was just the right sort of opponent that the Mayweather Brains Trust were always on the lookout for.

Who was Mayweather's Braintrust in 2001?
