We'll lets see he has been inactive, has taken 2 brutal beatings, and just had major surgery. Margarito is SHOT and so is Cotto
Why do people say that margarito is shot?

He fought Pac.
Everybody that fights Manny is supposedly shot, even though they might go on and enter the p4p top10, being the #1 guy in the division etc. (Cotto)
If Pac beat Sergio he would be old and shot according to BS the day after.Comment

Margarito wasnt shot before he fought Pac, but wouldnt suprise me if he was now.
People only say fighters are shot when there is a possibility they will fight pac, they get the excuses in early.Comment

So was Hatton, Cotto and Barrera according to many.
Everyone Pac fights is either a bum or shot. And, if I'm honest, the same goes for Floyd. The standards are just so much higher for them, and on top of that they both have alot of haters.
Just imagine if Pac or Floyd fought the Darren Barker of the WW division...Comment

Margarito isn't shot
Margarito isn't shot. He just was never the big deal that casual fans made him out to be. *******ed peasants NEED fans to believe that Margarito is only now shot because if fans were to consider that Margarito was simply heavily hyped before Pacquiao beat him while he was ranked 5th, it wouldn't flatter Pacquiao's accomplishments.
Now that everyone is actually looking for illegal wraps and such in Margarito's camp, he's looked less than ordinary.
Its no coincidence that Williams beat Margarito. Its no coincidence that Clottey did as well as he did against Antonio despite injuring his hand. Its no coincidence that a fighter than peasants called "shot", Mr Shane Mosley, knocked Margarito out when Antonio was coming off the biggest win of his career.
Its no coincidence that Margarito is basically now a Top Rank opponent-for-hire. Cotto should be facing Sergio Martinez or Saul Alvarez, not Antonio Margarito. This is exactly what Cotto did at 140lbs.
Margarito IN NO WAY holds any defining value for Cotto's legacy or his rank. Yet Bob Arum has legions of peasants pretending and discussing this match as if it will be anything other than Bob Arum making in-house money.
You've got to give to Arum. First he convinces the peasants that Margarito was a worthy challenge for the catchweight king despite him being KTFO and banned right before they fought. Then he has those same peasants believing that even though Margarito hasn't done anything of substance to redeem himself, that a match with Cotto is worth watching.
That's magic. Its peasant magic, but its magic nonetheless.
If(and I do believe he will) Cotto wins, they' will have Margarito rematching Clottey who hasn't done anything since doing his best turtle impression against Pacquiao. Arum is ALWAYS going to make HIS money, and as long as peasants continue to support him putting two of his own game****s in the same ring, he'll be able to get away with murder.
Arum isn't corrupt as much as he knows that not taking advantage of peasant ******ity and making a fortune would be even more wrong.
What's even more hilarious is the way that Bob Arum's various standards contradict each other.
So Bob Arum supposedly didn't want to promote DLH anymore despite him being the highest grossing PPV attraction, and his reasoning for that was that DLH hadn't beaten a "good fighter" in some time."Once we weren't going to put up a meaningful guarantee, we knew without anyone saying it there was no room for us to promote Oscar anymore," Arum said.
Arum said the decision was based on De La Hoya's poor performances over his last few bouts, weak pay-per-view returns for a June fight vs. Felix Sturm and what he termed an "alarming erosion" of De La Hoya's pay-per-view numbers in the Hispanic market for the Sturm and Hopkins fights.
"The feedback we were getting from the Hispanics was that Oscar quit in the Hopkins fight," Arum said. "I don't know if he quit or not, but certainly many of the Hispanic consumers felt he did. The erosion is so deep and threatens to get deeper because there is a feeling out there that he can't fight very much anymore, and that other than his fight with (Fernando) Vargas, he hasn't really won a fight in years against a good fighter.
"We don't think he really is fighting now for anything other than the money, that he doesn't train hard or come into the ring with passion."

That's interesting because aside from Pacquiao, all of the WW's that Arum represents have only 1 or possibly 2 noteworthy wins in their ENTIRE careers, and have NEVER come close to DLH's stardom or PPV numbers. He even defended Margarito behind the loaded gloves and got his ban lifted in Texas so that he could compete for a vacant jrMW title that neither he or Pacquiao were in line for.
Margarito has given us some moments, but if you're a real fan and can tell the difference between hype and substance(and you look at a fighter's record), you can see that even before he was dismantled by Shane Mosley he wasn't taking the boxing world by storm.
Margarito is only still relevant because of Arum's support. How Antonio "earned" his upcoming title shot against Cotto is beyond reason aside from realizing that Arum wins either way when both fighters are HIS own fighters.Comment
