Sooo why fight Marquez now and not 3 years ago when it meant something?? Did it take Marquez to put his feeling in text on a t-shirt for Pac to change his mind all of a sudden? "He wrote what on his t-shirt??? How dare Marquez!!"
Because the De La Hoya fight was more rewarding than a 3rd fight with JMM.

Did you mean fighting David Diaz was more rewarding than a 3rd fight with JMM??
There was no fight bigger for Pac at the time after their 2nd fight. Fighting Marquez for a 3rd time straight after seemed like the best thing to do at the time. The exposure was there, the money was there, the demand of the fans was there and both fights were FOTY matarial! Only reason not to take the fight back then was uncertainty on Pacs side.
Sure, the Diaz fight meant a belt at a different weight. What will he get out of an immediate rematch? It's no different than JMM turning down Pacquiao for a 2nd fight/immediate rematch. Then the De La Hoya fight was next...
You think people were asking for Pac to fight Diaz? That fight was rubbish compared to a fight with Marquez. What would he have gotten out of fighting Marquez a third time? A more meaningful fight that would have given Pac more respect, credit, exposure and more money over D.Diaz.
Pac fighting De La Hoya is pointless as to why Pac fought Diaz instead of Marquez anyways!
Based on the circumstances of both fights against Marquez, I don't see how fighting Diaz instead was the best choice.
Pac moved up. With Diaz, he got his 4th belt at 4th different weight class. Plus he got paid good.
That fight with Diaz got Manny the "credit, exposure and more money". Oscar called him out after that fight.
Floyd fans are so forgetful. Remember Pac already fought him twice and beat him twice. When you called someone is ducking a certain fighter after beating him twice needs to check his brain for abnormality. So what is the rush when you have plenty of fish to fry than eat the same pork for a third time.
The simple, sad fact is though that Marquez is another 40 year old, well past his best fighter that is slower, easier to hit and moving up two weight divisions to fight a peak, many years younger prime guy at his arguably best natural weight.
It's a given outcome and is exactly why the fight has been made. Marquez has next to no chance anymore at his current age and level. He just doesn't have the stuff he used to (he's actually dropped significantly TBH) whereas Pac is as good as he's ever been.
In all honesty, Marquez really didn't look very good at all against Katsidis. As fun as the fight was, it was only fun because Marquez has slid so badly in the last couple of years and with well over a year off with a useless, one round fight in between he's going to slow as hell to start off and rusty. Kind of makes me sad for such a warrior to be thrown to the lions with every possible advantage given to the opponent when he's already got all the natural advantages.

Late reply here, but you don't need to tell the details on what happened and who called who out..I already know em! Fighting Diaz did not give Manny more credit, exposure and money than a supposed 3rd fight against Marquez or/nor fights against the top fighters at Lightweight.
Bottom line is Manny left the rematch for way too long to the point it's a **** fight.

Pac already fought Marquez twice and arguably beat him twice. The immediate rematch has no point because if the fight was so close again, what do you want another rematch again? Pac made the right decision and historical significant when he beat Diaz for his 4 belts in another weight division. Without the Diaz fight, the opportunity to fight Oscar would be lost as Oscar would fight someone else. Pac made his name known to casual fans when he beat Oscar. The thing you can't say the same even if Pac beat Marquez for the 3rd time.
