Smart plan IMO.

Why say you'll fight the winner, when you KNOW there will be a winner? What are the chances of a draw? Instead, you say you'll target one of them, which is the one that most people think will lose in the fight. De La Hoya made that mistake, saying he'll fight Cotto if he beats Margarito, and then to save face, he said he'll fight the winner but in reality he just wanted Cotto. Then he looked really bad when he picked Pacquiao over Margarito, not to mention he lost while he made that major cherrypick.

Also, why fight Ward? He will expose that silly left-hand-down-chin-hanging-out style of Martinez. With Martinez vs Froch, it would be two guys with silly styles, Froch even sillier because he doesn't have the reflexes and handspeed to pull that style off, that's why he gets hit so much. Martinez at least has the handspeed and reflexes, but still gets hit quite a few times. In other words neither of them are exactly prime Roy Jones. Martinez is also a southpaw. I see Martinez beating Froch if this fight ever happens.
