Its not like he fought a ton of fights like an SRR or someone. 61 fights...Wlad's already fought 59 and if you include kickboxing and amateur fights Vitali has fought hundreds of more fights than Ali and after Adamek would have fought 5 more times than Ali did after 35...So why is this so called "greatest" punch drunk to hell? He also had a 3 year lay off, and fought more guys under 200 before the layoff than he did over 200. And dont tell me that crap that he fought too long past his prime...after the age of 35 he fought only 4 times...2x against a cruiserweight with 6 pro wins and a draw...once where he quit against Larry Holmes and then finally against Berbick...and age 35 wasnt even 3 years after Foreman which was the best win of his career. So why is he so damn punch drunk if he was so hard to hit? Was he just a fraud, all smoke and mirrors? Were championship fights against 14-1-1 Alfredo Evangelista that went the distance proof that he simply had no power to get people over 200 lbs out of there and thus fought too many rounds?

Neither Vitali nor Wlad show any signs of being punch drunk, no slurred speech, no weight gain, no real deterioration...so are they both much harder to hit than Ali? Im trying to figure out if Ali was the greatest why did he clearly sustain much more damage than 99% of fighters over the course of his career...why so many close controversial decisions...jones, young, shavers, spinks, norton...why at 221 lbs was he fighting guys who came in weighing 180 lbs? These are questions I simply cant answer.

The Rope Dope was a mistake he won but it cost him his brain also those beating in the 3 Fraizer fights which 2 he won and his beating by Larry Holmes. If he had been ko'd in 2 rounds agnist Foreman and than retired he wouldn't be punch drunk

Wlad & Vitali combined in their 15 year professional career(s) have a sum total of 1 fight with an elite A-level Heavyweight.

In that one fight, A prime Vitali Klitschko failed to last a mere 7 rounds with an old Lennox Lewis. And took a beating so horrific that he was nearly permanently disfigured and had to temporarily retire for 4 years to recover physically & psychologically.

Ali on the other hand, had somewhere in the neighborhood of at least 10 fights with elite A-Level (Lennox Lewis caliber) Heavyweights.

Ali has fought 10 times as many elite Heavyweights as the Klitschko's combined.

The simple answer to your question sir is, there's a very large disparity in quality when you compare Ali's competition to the Klitschko's. When you fight the type of guys Ali's fought, you're inevitably going to get hit a few times, and hard.

Imagine if Vitali & Wlad had to fight 10 Lennox Lewis caliber Heavyweights throughout the course of their career. You can't imagine it, can you?

If the Klits had to fight in stacked eras like the 70's & 90's. They wouldn't be the Klitschko's, they would be Andrew Golota.

How exactly do you measure the criteria for what constitutes an "A-Level" heavyweight? You say that Ali fought 10 guys who were at least as good as Lennox Lewis yet there is no objective method of measuring this.

It's pretty ****** to claim that Vitali Klitschko took 4 years off to recover from the Lewis fights when he fought three more times before he temporarily left the sport. I'm not so delusional that I would argue that Klitschko won that fight, but he certainly didn't receive a beating. Lewis landed some well placed overhand rights and took advantage when he saw the cut.

In their defense, they are victims of a lack-luster HW division, not from their willingness to take challenges. I think Vitaly would have held his own in any era, not been the top dog, but definitely at the very least, a good gatekeeper.

Were there HW eras a lot stronger than this one? Sure, a few, but those are the exception, not the rule.

Anyway, back to sanity: Muhammad Ali suffers from Parkinson's disease, a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system. The actor Michael J. Fox has it and Pope John Paul II had it. It is not caused by blows to the head.

Ali took a lot of shots to the head by some heavy hitters in his career, so his brain might very well have been somewhat damaged. But from all accounts, his mind is pretty sharp. George Chuvalo (as "TheGreatA" pointed out) took massive punishment in his career, yet he's clear-minded as can be.
