    Educate me on "Ricardo Lopez"

This guys is interesting. Was on the Pound 4 Pound list for 8 Consecutive years (1993-2001)

And retired undefeated (51-0), yet not many people talk about

What's the verdict on this guy ? I'm I missing something here.

one of the greatest ever to lace them up....... his downside was the fact that he was at the minimum weight and didn't get the same attention as other weight classes.

but the skills and overall talent as a fighter, known as Ricardo "Finito" Lopez, was unparalleled......

his division was on the exact opposite end of the boxing spectrum verses the heavyweights, the little guys during his day got next to NO TV time... or any media coverage.

sad but true. either way, watch any and all of his fights that you can get your hands on, the guy was something special and would be able to be champ in any weight class during any era of boxing....... he is on all time great status........

everyone appreciates his skills but his biggest downfall was not only the lower weight but it was the fact that the division ****** and he never moved up until the very end but still didnt fight a big notable name. He doesnt have the big name on his resume and I think he shouldve tried to move up a lil more, even if it meant losing

I'm sure someone can do a better job of doing a nice write up but I'll just put my thoughts off top of the head:

A ****n boxing master. If you haven't seen him fight before, you will definitely notice a striking resemblance to young JMM, in stances, style and level of schooling. Both having the quintessential Nacho Beristein trained style. At this lower weight, he was a super skilled boxer, counterpuncher, devestating puncher who threw in combination and still has some of the most picturesque KO's I've seen to this day. Not to overstate anything, but he basically stayed and cleaned out his division to the point were some of his fights were blowouts and not always the most entertaining in terms of competiveness....but he was still great to watch, just such a clean boxer.

Most competitive fight would probably have been Rosendo Alvarez 2, when Lopez was already advancing a bit in age. Maybe someone else remembers other competitive fights I can't think of now....

probably one of the most complete boxers i've ever seen...Finito was the real deal

he could have REALLY enhanced his legacy by moving up and fighting Carbajal and Chiquita

He is so good that If he campaigned at any weight between 130 to 147 this site would have Lopeztards and Lomos.

yeah, the talent wasn't at it's peak, but then again, look at those weight classes since then even up to now, it still doesn't get the proper attention as it should.

but this is the thing, and i say this about calzaghe too... whether or not anyone of us think that his competition was weak and it was easy and " not that credible "...... he had to rise up against each and everyone of his opponents and do what was needed to win...... and he also had tough fights, he wasn't the favorite going into each and every fight, only when people realized he was a baddass did he become the betting favorite.

moving up could've been a move that got him more attention and media coverage, maybe, back in his day though, no one under featherweight got any real attention, maybe a bantam weight here and there, but it wasn't until barerra vs morales I & II did the little guys start getting the coverage that they should, the proper coverage at least.

anyways, he's a great, he rose to every occasion against every opponent, that takes serious mental toughness, especially if you're bored or know that your opponent is inferior to you, you risk playing down to your level of competition and lopez rarely did..... and he didn't carry fighters neither, if he had you beat, he would try and take you out....... thats what a real champ does.
