up until barerra exposed him he was near the top of the sport

he;s about as hard a puncher as there has ever been at FW. he launched his punches like they were coming out of a cannon. only a few FW in history have hit that hard (lopez, pacquiao, few others)

he was never a super sound boxer, so his style was very inconsistent

he could also be tagged and knocked off balance, but had a pretty sturdy beard

in short he was very gifted, but lacked the top flight boxing sensibilities to be considered a true ATG

he'll probably make it to the HOF

hbo was very hesitant to invest in smaller men until he came around as well, and that might be his biggest impact

no naz, no small guys warring on big networks
not in the current capacity , anyway

roy jones jnr and prince are the reason boxing was at its greatest in the 90s

include peak tyson lewis and holyfield

and probably mayweathers real best years- when no one even cared who he was

de la hoya and moseley's best years

      and best era of boxing

All of these fighters were much much better than Naseem. Naseem was an entertainer... too much style not enough substance. Overrated has never been a more appropriate word.

He had deceptive power and an awkward style that gave he's opponents a tough time, but most of his opponents weren't seasoned and disciplined enough to handle it until Barrera came along and schooled him.

I always thought of Naz as a definite elite, without questions.

It's almost like saying Tyson wasn't that good, just watch the Buster fight, which was a worse beatdown than what Naz took.

Naz had a ton of potential but he lost his love for boxing and I think at his absolute best and focused, the Barrera fight would have been different. He wasn't serious at that time and would retire almost immediately after. He was slipping before that fight took place.

No way was Hamed elite. Overrated. The Barrera fight would have went Barrera's way no matter what. These excuses are tiring, Hamed's unorthodox style worked well against sub-par opposition but otherwise it ******. Way too offbalance and easy to counter.

The Tyson comparison doesn't ring true to me. It is quite clear that personal problems affected Tyson far more. Tyson is overrated but it is clear to anyone with eyes that he was a much much better fighter than Hamed. Hamed had too much style and not enough substance.

People can say what they want about his apparent lack of motivation but it wouldn't have made a difference. His leaning back style made him way too vulnerable to left hooks and Barrera exposed this. He always did this and it would never have been any different. Whenever Barrera missed he was so off-balanced that any elite with good countering skills and a chin would have whipped him.
