I thought Despaigne looked good, and has seemed to of gone back to his roots that made him the great amateur that he was. He boxed, which he somewhat forgot about when he fought Sillakh and ended up losing his first fight. He demonstrated his timing and counter-punching skills against Miranda. To me, Miranda was gone and had no chance against Despaigne after the 3rd round, even when he did his best work, they were grazing body shots that Despaigne managed to smother most of the time. Only issue with this fight...of course the DQ. It came very early, but you also have to take into consideration Miranda's reckless reputation, and i don't know if anyone thought about this, but there's been alot of people *****ing about the same ref counting Judah out when it was a "lowblow"...So in his mind he had pressure on him..turns out, he got too strict and messed up a likely good win for Despaigne...you could tell by looking at despaigne he did not want to win that way. if the fight would of continued Despaigne was likely going to stop Miranda late like i had predicted. This should raise Despaignes stock, i felt he was underrated even after losing to Sillakh. Good solid win for Yordanis, just not the greatest result, not his fault though....just my two cents people. Tymann.
My thoughts on Despaigne-Miranda.

Are you on some serious drugs?
First off, how can you possibly say this does anything for Despaigne's stock and how it is a 'good solid win'. What a joke. He didnt win the fight. Miranda didnt even lose the fight. It was some bull**** calls from the ref 'cause Despainge acted like a little *****.
No way he would have KO'd Miranda if this fight continued. Despaigne does not have the power to knock him out. Miranda has a solid chin, but no great defense. He can get KO'd but only from very strong punchers, Abraham, Bute and Pavlik.
This fight was just getting interesting. Miranda proved with his ****** 8 punch combo he took to the head while toying with Despaigne that he didnt have any power to KO him. Miranda was on the prowl and going to chase him down for as many rounds as it would take to KO Despainge. He had him hurt and I dont think it would have lasted much longer.
There will be a rematch. They both need to finish the fight. There is nowhere Despaigne can go from here.Last edited by Pantera2000; 07-30-2011, 09:47 AM. -
I did not like that the fight was stopped so early, things really looked like they were starting to heat up..Bad ref job last night imo and might have help him out last night..It looked like a rough road ahead tbh..Comment

Despainge is not that good yet, and Miranda was coming on. Miranda was landing some good body-shots, and Despainge held down Miranda's head so when Miranda threw that last body-shot it landed on the steel cup. The ref failed in this fight, he should have realized that Despainge was holding down Mirandas head and thats why the punch went south of the border.
Edit: Didn't want to badmouth Despainge too much since he hasn't been pro that long but I'd like to see a rematch. This was a huge step-up for Despainge and the ref blew it. But Despainge crying like a baby over some of the shots didn't help.
Atlas says they wear steel cups which means they have some pretty good protection. Fighters need to stop overreacting.Last edited by uoykcuf; 07-30-2011, 09:56 AM.Comment

Yordanis has said he allowed himself to go out of his game plan with Sillakh. He's aware that he's a boxer, not a puncher. I think he would've done better against Ismayl, had he stayed true to himself, but would've lost anyway. I consider Despaigne a second-tier Cuban defector, while "The Black Russian" is a potential star.I thought Despaigne looked good, and has seemed to of gone back to his roots that made him the great amateur that he was. Against Miranda, Yordanis went back to his true style and was clearly outclassing a very slow "Pantera". Edison only managed to land blows when Despaigne stepped into the pocket and traded. As soon as Yordanis backed off, Miranda couldn't find him. I thought the expression on Despaigne's face was very comfortable, like he was sparring with a lesser fighter.
Vic Drakulich was way too quick with the point deductions. Maybe, as you say, he felt pressure stemming from the Khan fight. The first low blow was a tap that Despaigne clearly played up. The ref should've issued a warning, at most. Edison might have landed a couple of more low blows after that and the fight would've continued.
I disagree about Yordanis wanting the fight to go on. He played hurt after the first foul and didn't hesitate to go down after the next two. It seemed to me that he's still stuck in that amateur "points" mentality. Despaigne was clearly outclassing a slow, shot Miranda. Edison had said all kinds of disparaging things about Yordanis, and Cuban fighters in general, in hyping up the fight. That should've motivated Despaigne to prolong the match and knock Miranda out late. It would've vindicated him and looked better on his record.Comment

Pantera. No, Despaigne isn't a big puncher, he's said it himself. BUT. He hurt Miranda twice. Despite how "machismo" Miranda acted about taking those shots, he was hurt by them. He was also wobbled pretty badly in the first round. Yet, he couldn't hurt despaigne, let alone get off one good combination. You don't need to get mad bro, just giving my opinion on what went down in the first 5 rounds, and to me Despaigne was controlling every aspect of it. Just MY opinion. You have yours I have mine.Comment

Despaigne obviously isn't a puncher, but he landed a couple of shots that got Miranda's attention. Late in the first round, Edison was hurt. And that little "Mayorga display" was cute, but Miranda was rolling with those punches. He didn't take them full-on.Are you on some serious drugs?

I believe Yordanis would've won on points or on a late KO/TKO. He was outclassing a slow, shot Miranda. A stoppage would've come by accumulation of punches. Edison looked listless. Even after the ref ended the fight, he looked strangely unaffected. Miranda's still probably got enough power to hurt Yordanis, but he was just too slow to catch him.
The fight was entertaining while it lasted. I agree, Despaigne was being a b*tch. That first low blow was just a tap. Yordanis was clearly playing it up to induce a point deduction or warning. I really didn't like the way Despaigne handled all that. Very amateur, in my opinion.Comment

When was Despaigne hurt? If the fight was not going to last much longer, it would've been because Miranda was KOed. Yordanis was in control of that fight. Edison probably still has enough power to hurt Despaigne, but he was slow and getting hit repeatedly. How was Miranda going to "chase down" Despaigne? This fight was just getting interesting. As for a rematch...Miranda's days as a professional fighter are over, at least if he's intelligent enough to protect his health. He was clearly bettered by a fighter who's not exactly star-quality. Despaigne is now 9-1, with a loss to a true potential star in Ismayl Sillakh. Yordanis's career potential is limited, but he's got much more ahead of him than Edison, who's done.Comment

This was the battle of head cases. ANyone who thinks otherwise is ******ed. Despaigne will lose hsi head again and try to play machismo whenever he comes across another tough fight. The dudes a 'boxer' who likes for his opponents to engage. If his opponents don't engage, gets mad and s tarts slapping his gloves together and complaining that his opponent won't 'fight'
Miranda is another head case, and he was actually turning it on an dlanding a LOT of leather on Despaigne. it wasn't a clear cut victory for Despaigne at ALL, that fight was competitive.Comment
